You’re mouse is the prime connection between you and your gaming machine. Without it, tasks would become impossible, gaming would become illogical but an inferior tool is just as bad as not having one at all.Razer don’t make inferior products and the Deathadder 2013 is no exception. Packaged in the iconic black box with velcro sealed window, the Deathadder waits for its release to aid you in your shooting, looting and moving endeavors. The package comes with the trademark leaflets and stickers to do with what you wish including the simple instructions of how to get started with the mouse. After plucking it from its box, I noticed the Deathadder had a completely different feel about it in comparison to the original version. Instead of the soft feel texture that covered the Deathadder 1.0, you get a scratchy matte feel to mull-over.
After a fair amount of use, it’s clear to see this was a wise alteration. No longer do hands get hot after prolonged periods of play. Also to Razer’s credit, the mouse is now much easier to clean, ensuring that edible delights don’t stick around for too long. It’s the identical size to the original which isn’t bad (for why change a good thing?) However the most obvious addition to the mouse are the soft grips on both sides. They are placed just below the two buttons on the left and along the bottom-side on the right. They are perfectly placed for someone like me who picks up their mouse quite often when playing fast-paced FPSs. After going back to other mice, such as the original, I find the mouse slips through my hand, making me re-adjust my grip, sometimes at key moments in the game. With the additional grips that’s no longer a problem and I don’t have to fiddle about constantly with positioning.
Movement of the mouse on an adequate surface is silky smooth. The new ‘Ultraslick’ mouse feet that the Deathadder 2013 is equipped with, contribute to the hardly-noticeable feel of the mouse. There is no need to add your own customised feet to the mouse as it’s unlikely you will find much better. The feet coupled with the 6400 DPI that the mouse provides gives you the most precise movement possible for a product of this price.
The new Deathadder works in-sync with Synapse 2.0, allowing you to move your mouse settings and macros with you wherever you go. The simple to use software allows you to log-in, detect your chosen product and throw you back into the customised gameplay that you have created, quickly and easily.
All the buttons as well as the scroller are well made. There is a distinctive click between each notch of the scroller, making it easier to distinguish which gun you are switching, for example, without passing over it.
The buttons themselves are well made but could be prone to wear and tear after a while going by the original but hopefully, Razer have worked around the issues of sticky buttons.
The £65 price tag might be a little steep for some but if you are looking for a mouse that is going to last you a while, is going to be consistent in its job and give you an edge on the opposition in any game type, then the Deathadder 2013 is your route to success.
