Mice have come along way since the old days and can now work on any surface, well to a degree that is. So why would you want to invest in a mouse mat in 2020 or whenever you are reading this review?
Well, I always find that a mouse works much better with a mouse mat rather than on any surface, as they can offer you a smoother experience overall. More importantly, if you are a gamer, a mouse mat can provide that added advantage on the battlefield allowing for that precise shot on target.
There is also how the mouse communicates with the pc and its software, a better surface allows the mouse to feedback information to your device, providing its exact position at all times, offering pinpoint accuracy, this is something we all need. Remember the trackball in the mouse, they were shocking, dirt would build upon the ball and soon enough your mouse pointer would be all over the place.
So now we know why you should invest in a mouse mat, let us look at the Razer GIGANTUS V2 Mouse Mat, which I have in XXL.
These can be found in your local Game Store, Online through the Razer Store, and other good online and retail outlets around the globe.
When I saw this, I was looking for a cloth mouse mat that would allow my mouse to move precisely over and rest my keyboard upon. This came to my attention while viewing other mouse mats and stood out thanks to its size Width 940 mm / 37″, Height 410 mm / 16.14″ with a depth of 4 mm / 0.15″. Other features were the brand Razer, textured Micro-weave cloth surface, Thick, high-density rubber foam, and an anti-slip rubber base. All these features were present on the front of the box including a full overview of the mouse mat. You can even feel the mouse mat through a hole on one of the sides, however, right now due to CORVID-19 please wash your hands after just to be safe, or do not do it at all and think of others.
My last mouse mat was also from Razer and it was the all-dancing RAZER Goliathus Extended Chroma. A mouse mat that did not cover my desk, but it did allow me to rest my keyboard upon and still use my mouse while having a light show, a mini disco. This mouse mat may seem simple, refined you could say, with just four standout points, the logo in the top right, black cloth all over the top, green rubber and the non-slip base, there is no RGB lighting, No massive logos and nothing that stands out.
I guess being a more refined mouse mat will have its audience, gamer audience, well yes I am a gamer and I prefer a blank sheet rather than a mouse mat adorned in artwork. It makes things easy to find, visible on the desk, cleaner and tidier in a sense a more practical mouse mat. The rubber is dense and offers a nice surface, like a cushion in a way, though the thickness is somewhat higher than many mouse mats I have used in the past, which might put some of you off. The anti-slip underside does exactly that, it does not move once you place it on the desk and add your devices to it. Razer does say that the mouse mat offers anti-fray stitching, so here let us test this, rub, rub, rub all sides for a good amount of time… 1 hrs in, the arm is aching, nope everything is still all good, this might change after months and months of use who knows but for now with 1hrs of intensive rubbing everything seems ok.
The Mat will attract dust but do not fret, dust or crumbs from crisps can be swept away with ease, it is almost like there is a thin layer of something protecting the top cloth layer.
Using the mouse mat, I rested my favourite keyboard upon it, the Razer Huntsman Elite and the Razer Naga Trinity Chroma. The only device I cared about working perfectly was the Razer Naga Trinity Chroma and as expected, worked like a charm. This could just be the mouse, its software or as I said at the start, a good quality surface all make up a good playing environment. FPS Games, RPG Gamers, general applications on Windows 10 all worked perfect, flawless and what you are getting for the price is a bargain especially for this brand.
If this mouse mat is to small you can order the 3XXL which is 1200 mm x 550 mm, or if this mouse mat is too big for you then you can go smaller 450 mm x 400 mm or even smaller 360 mm x 275 mm. The smallest coming in at only £9.99, then £14.99 and the 3XL coming in at £49.99.
There is nothing wrong with this mouse mat at all and does the job as expected, maybe the thickness will put some people off or not having a nice braided edge, who knows.
You can purchase this mouse mat here for £29.99, which is an odd price since the American version is $29.99, which equates to £22.92 (16.08.2020) so I would have expected the UK version to be around £24.99.
