Roulette: What is needed for a game
To play a game of Roulette, whether that be in the casino or online from the comfort of your sofa, a game will always consist of; a Roulette wheel, a corresponding table, a small ball, betting chips and a dealer.
Outside Bets and their Odds
- Column Bet: 2:1
On the table layout, you’ll notice three boxes at the end of each row of 12 numbers that will either state ‘2:1’ or ‘2 to 1’. This is where you will place a betting chip to place a wager called a Column bet. Each Column bet is comprised of 12 numbers and when a betting chip is placed in one of the ‘2:1’ boxes, that chip is a wager on all 12 of those numbers.
The first Column consists of numbers; 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34.
The second Column consists of numbers; 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 23, 35.
The third Column consists of numbers; 3, 6, 9 ,12, 15, 18 ,21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36.
- Dozen Bet: 2:1
Consisting of 12 numbers, just like a Column bet, a Dozen bet is split into three sections, this time with the numbers in numerical order. To place a Dozen bet, you simply need to place a betting chip within one of three boxes; 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12.
1st 12 – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
2nd 12 – 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24.
3rd 12 – 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36.
- High / Low: 1:1
If you’d rather place a bet on whether the next numbered pocked is classed as either a high or low number (high – 19 to 36 or low – 1 to 18), then you’d simply need to place a betting chip in the box within the table layout that corresponds to this bet type.
The boxes themselves may look a little different depending on the game table, but will usually state ‘low’, ‘high’, ‘1-18’ or ’19-36’. This bet type carries a just less than 50% chance of winning, due to the zero(s) at play.
- Red / Black: 1:1
If you’d rather try to correctly predict the colour of the pocket, rather than the number range, you could place a colour bet, by simply placing a betting chip down within the box that corresponds with either black or red. This, like the high / low bet, this bet consists of a slightly below 50% chance of winning, due to the green zero pocket(s) on the wheel.
- Odd / Even: 1:1
If you’d prefer to bet on whether the numbered pocket is either odd or even, you would simply need to place a wager within the odd or even box. Like the previous two bet types mentioned above, this also carries just below a 50% chance of winning due to the zero(s) at play. The even money, outside bets are often considered the best bets to place when playing Roulette due to this.
