The San Francisco Shock defeated the Vancouver Titans at the Overwatch League Grand Finals today to stake their claim as the league’s best team this season.
San Francisco swept the Grand Finals match 4-0 to capture the 2019 title in front of a sold-out crowd at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Shock were led by Jay “Sinatraa” Won, winner of the league’s 2019 MVP award, presented by T-Mobile. Philadelphia native Matt “Super” Delisi also shined as a hometown star.
The 2019 Grand Finals MVP presented by T-Mobile was awarded to Hyo-bin “ChoiHyoBin” Choi for his tank play.
As fans in the packed arena – home to the Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers – watched the Shock sweep the Titans, holders of the league’s best regular season record, millions more around the world watched the event on television and online. The Overwatch League’s Grand Finals presented by Xfinity was broadcast on ABC, the ESPN app, overwatchleague.com, and the Overwatch League app, and livestreamed on Twitch in 190 countries.
Kicking off the Grand Finals was an exclusive performance by multi-platinum, GRAMMY award-winning artist, DJ and producer ZEDD. Known for hits like “The Middle” and “Stay,” he performed his latest track “Good Thing” live for the first time ever with singer, songwriter and dancer Kehlani. The surprise performance was taken in by celebrity guests and Overwatch League fans Questlove, actor Dylan Sprouse, model Barbara Palvin and rapper Desiigner.
With San Francisco’s victory over Vancouver, the Overwatch League’s 2019 season is now complete. The offseason begins in earnest on Sept. 30, when the 2020 signing window for teams opens. To find out more about how teams will be constructing their 2020 rosters, visit overwatchleague.com.
The 2020 Overwatch League season begins on Feb. 8 when the New York Excelsior and Dallas Fuel host the first weekend of matches at home. All teams will be hosting matches in their home markets next season for the first time, in a format similar to the 2019 season’s Homestand weekends.
