SEGA, Ubisoft and Konami will open their doors to local Digital Schoolhouse students next week for the national Discover! Creative Careers week. Taking place 18th – 22nd November 2019, the special series of events aims to inspire young people to pursue a career within video games and other creative industries.
Schools from the Digital Schoolhouse programme, together with Nintendo UK, are visiting these global businesses to find out more about careers in the video games industry and to gain a real insight into the breadth of roles available in this diverse, exciting industry. Activities will include career talks from employees across multiple disciplines, networking, and the opportunity to respond to and present a creative brief to industry professionals.
“At Digital Schoolhouse we embed careers education in everything we do,” said Shahneila Saeed, director of Digital Schoolhouse. “As a bridge between industry and education we’re keen to support and engage with opportunities such as the Discover! Creative Careers week, which does just that.”
“In addition to the digital skills required in both business and technical roles within the creative sector, experiences like this enable students to gain a vital insight into real work environments which spotlight the importance of soft skills too.”
“This is unique careers education and an exemplary opportunity for students and teachers alike, to understand possible pathways in the video games industry and perhaps uncover roles that they didn’t even know existed.”
Discover! Creative Careers is a week-long event launching this year in England as part of the Creative Careers Programme, a national initiative driven by the Creative Industries Federation, ScreenSkills and Creative & Cultural Skills. Born from the special creative industries “sector deal” and supported by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Programme aims to reach around 160,000 school-age students by March 2020 and inspire the next generation of workers.
As part of the week, hundreds of employers from across the creative industries are inviting young people aged 11-18 years to their offices to discover the breadth and depth of different careers in the creative industries.
