Digital Extremes hosted its latest Soulframe Devstream, unveiling exciting new updates for fans following the game’s ongoing Pre-Alpha test on PC. The studio revealed details for upcoming Founders invitations and rolled out the long-awaited Preludes 11 update — a content-rich expansion introducing new storylines, armour customization, weapon progression, and narrative arcs tied to major characters like Verminia and Bromius.
Soulframe: Preludes – Song of Growth (Official Music Video)
Senior Community Manager Sarah Asselin shared insights into the studio’s commitment to storytelling, saying: “Every new system introduced in Preludes 11 carries narrative weight. Engaging with Hues and Bestiching deepens your bond with Verminia, collecting Totems strengthens your connection to the wilds of Midrath, and Bromius’ redemption arc invites players to share in his burdens and triumphs.”
As Soulframe evolves, the world of Midrath continues to grow both narratively and mechanically. The new Hues dye and Bestiching systems now allow players to fully customize their armour’s appearance — a welcome feature for Envoys eager to shape their identity in this atmospheric world. The update also deepens the lore surrounding Verminia, the Rat Witch, once a master of colour-brewing whose tragic past is brought vividly to life through synesthetic storytelling and interactive progression systems.
The Waste Bear Fable and New Dungeon: The Neath’uns
The update’s biggest highlight is The Waste Bear Fable — a cinematic dungeon questline where players must face corrupted Sproutfolk and cleanse the Omen Beast, Bromius, from his own torment. This fable ties directly into The Neath’uns, an entirely new dungeon environment filled with ichor-choked root caves, environmental puzzles, and intense battles. It’s a grim yet beautiful descent that continues Digital Extremes’ tradition of blending narrative with exploration.
Upon completing The Waste Bear Fable, players can forge a soulbinding Pact with Bromius, unlocking new abilities like Wevetroot, Rump Thump, and Song of Growth. These powers not only enhance gameplay but connect to the story’s emotional core — the struggle for redemption and rebirth.
Founders Program Incoming
The studio also teased its upcoming Founders Program, themed around the first Envoys — Galene, Pothia, and Josalfar. Becoming a Founder grants early access to Soulframe Preludes along with exclusive cosmetics, items, and recognition as part of the game’s early legacy. This initiative mirrors Digital Extremes’ approach with Warframe’s early days, building a loyal player foundation before full launch.
Major Additions and Quality-of-Life Improvements
- New Sub-Bosses: Face corrupted foes like Etheldred the Weaver, Gruul Seeker Ruthos, and Wraith of Wastes scattered across Alca.
- Armour Customization: Utilize new materials like Moonsteel and Figments to recolor and transform armour aesthetics.
- Totems & Runes: Rescue wildlife to gain Totems offering passive stat boosts, or defeat mini-bosses for Runes that imbue weapons with elemental powers.
- New Starting Armours: Choose from faction-based sets tied to Alca’s Children, Kith of Kings, or Silent Rose, emphasizing magic, combat, or stealth playstyles.
- Quality of Life: Rebalanced loot tables, smoother UI, new VFX, dodge/block animations, and improved hit feedback all refine the experience.
Creative Director Geoff Crookes on Soulframe’s Vision
“We always strive to tell stories that connect on an emotional, human level,” said Geoff Crookes, Creative Director. “These narrative Fables show how deeply we value that connection. Our players’ feedback helps shape this world — every dungeon, every melody, every crafted colour has purpose.”
He added that more major updates are planned for the final Devstreams of the year, encouraging players to join the ongoing Preludes experience and help shape the game’s evolution from its earliest phase.
