Now, let us have a look at the product when displayed on a shelf in a shop looking to be picked up by the general public. Speedlink have decided to sell this product to Phone and Tablet users. Do I agree with them on this? well to a degree and then again I do not, keep reading to find out why.
There are a number of ways to connect up these speakers which include Bluetooth and 3.5mm Audio Jack, the USB connection is only there to power the speakers and activate the RGB lighting.
Now I said before I agree but also disagree with there choice to support mobile and tablet users. Let me explain when it comes to the general mobile user, they like everything to be mobile, simply put it, compact and easily portable. These speakers are in no way compact and in no way portable, I would never carry these around with me. That does not stop them from being a speaker for mobile and tablet users, they could also be for users that have a PC and laptop.
Speedlink does make them really easy to use and connect, it is as simple as choosing a connection. If you choose Bluetooth, all you have to do power the device, press the M button, you will hear an acoustic sound, you then search for the speaker within your desired device and connect up. If you prefer a wired connection just plug-in the 3.5mm Audio jack and you are good to go.
Once powered the speakers do look good, very good, as the RGB lighting that surrounds the speaker cone really does give these speakers the bling effect. Just look at the video below;
But we do not buy a speaker just for the bling effect, we buy a speaker to listen to music, play games, listen to youtube and much more so the sound is very important to us. This is where we are let down, which is a shame. The sound comes through as very tinny, with very little bass to push across those lower tones, they also lack treble to push across those high tones. So they set themselves in a difficult position, what could you actually use them for and who would use them?
Well if you had a pair of headphones, you could plug them in and maybe those headphones would offer a better soundscape and you might be able to use an EQ to improve some of the sounds, but you are in no way going to get it much better. So I am unable to say these speakers are good for audiophiles because in no way they would want them, they are not good for users that love bass, because they do not offer the super low tones. Gamers probably would not want them either, due to the same reasons, so who would want them? kids? well maybe, let’s look at the kid’s option. They do not really fully understand what to expect from audio, yet, they just want to listen to the music they enjoy, they also like items with bling. It is very rare kids take speakers out with them and you see plenty of kids listening to music just through there mobile phone speakers and really enjoying it. These are also entry-level speakers on a budget, so you should not in any way expect anything blind blowing.
So my conclusion is simple, these speakers are in NO way suitable for many of us, they are in no way mobile friendly, as you can not carry these around with ease. These speakers are for the home, for a bedroom a kids bedroom and due to this maybe Speedlink should market these for kids. The price of €39.99 is not too high and what you get is OK as they are pretty loud and they do offer an OK audio experience with a tiny amount of bass, but that is it. So do you buy them? for your young child yes, for an adult no, for this reason, I can NOT wholly recommend them.
