After reviewing WC7 and before that Project Cars 2, it was about time I go back to reviewing peripherals, this time I am taking a look at the new SteelSeries Sensei 310.
Coming off what PCGamer stated about the product “Best Ambidextrous Gaming Mouse” are pretty big words to be using and Steelseries use this quote on the front of the packaging. So does it meet the mark, or does it fall flat, let us find out.
From the shop to the home, the packaging,
On the front, you can see the mouse in all its glory, with a top overview of the mouse, with the chosen orange lighting on the logo and mouse wheel. Other noticeable features mentioned on the front is Steelseries Prism, which is their RGB lighting system, spit-trigger 50m buttons, which means both left and right buttons will last up to 50million depresses before becoming less responsive or broken. Then we have SteelSeries new sensor called the Truemove3 custom sensor, to find out more about Truemove 3 head on over here https://steelseries.com/blog/truemove3-optical-sensor-37 if you can not be bothered and want me to tell you, here is a short breakdown
‘TrueMove is the first sensor that exactly matches your mouse movement with movement on-screen regardless of CPI setting. To achieve true 1-to-1 tracking, a mouse sensor must be free of smoothing, angle snapping, and imprecise movement.’
There it is for you, everything else really is waffle, but it is worth a read if you want to know a little more.
SteelSeries note that this mouse if engineered for esports, and tbh, the way esport players work and use their mice, I can understand why this mouse would shine and provide that perfect balance.
Moving to the back other features noted alongside a picture of the mouse from a side view and purple LED are the following;
- Custom Truemove3 12,000 CPI/350IPS optical sensor for pixel-perfect precision
- Split-trigger buttons (50m Omron) for ultra-fast clicking and duration
- Legendary Steelseries Sensei ambidextrous design
- SteelSeries Engine Software tweak your settings and illumination
- Lightweight 90g construction for fast, natural movement

Removing the sleeve from the packaging reveals a black box with a flip lid, flip the lid open and vwallah, there is your mouse, cushioned between foam, with the cables at the top.
Now we get to the gritty part, all about the mouse,
Being ambidextrous this mouse is great for left and right-hand gamers, so with all ambidextrous mouse you will find the same on either side of the mouse, this one has two buttons and textured rubber side grips, which feel great in use. The mouse itself is plastic in design and does not pick up fingerprints. The mouse’s shape is fantastic and underneath they have done a great job by tapering the edges to stop scratching, also comes with three rubber feet, that will help the mouse glid over your chosen surface.
I have used this mouse in my Favorited way Palm Grip, however, based on how much I have gamed with the mouse in all grip styles I can comfortably say, whichever play style you choose this mouse should be perfectly OK to use, of course, everything is down to hand-size as well.
When picking the mouse up and checking its weight distribution, it seems all weight is perfectly balanced and set around the mouse sensor, which if you look at the mouse from underneath, means the weight is distributed more to the back.
When putting this mouse on my scales I get around 95g which is more than what SteelSeries states this mouse weighs, so its either my scales are wrong or SteelSeries have better scales than me.
When it comes to size of the mouse we first checkout the grip width, which is basically the front section of the mouse, which is around 6cm/60mm, length is around 12cm/120mm and the height, taken from the highest point is around 4cm (please allow a mm to two ether way, due to human error).
Now comes the mouse clicks, have a listen to this video
The mouse comes with a braided cable which I must say, I always look for now with all my gaming peripherals but does not come with a gold plated USB connection, but I doubt that will make any difference to the performance of the mouse.
When using the mouse in game, its performs great, pixel to pixel perfection, and I was unable to get this mouse to spin out like I could with the Razer Lancehead. Testing the mousing lift-off distance, with my well used DVD’s the mouse was still working, I think a DVD is around 1 or 2mm in thickness, so that’s its left off distance while still working.
SteelSeries Engine Software
In the software, you can create your own profiles, assign buttons to keys, media buttons, macros even launch applications if you want them to, you can also send the RGB and CPI right up to 12000 lowest of 100. There is also the option to send acceleration, deceleration angle snapping and polling rate.
Wondering what I mean by some of the terms used? here is a short break down
- Polling Rate – controls how often the computer will communicate with the device
- Angel Snapping – Helps straighten out and snap your lines
- Acceleration & Deceleration – modify your mouse cursor speed, based on the speed you move the mouse.
- CPI – Determines how far your mouse cursor moves in relation to the physical movement of the mouse.
So what did I play with this mouse, well this is a surprise, WOW Legion, for some reason I am doing a test on how the game has changed from 5 years ago when cataclysm came out, here is a hint, a shed load. Also been playing WRC 7, Project Cars 2, Guild War 2: Path of Fire, other games I played where Dungeons 3, PES 2018 and Runic’s new game Hob. With every game the mouse was fantastic, and I was able to play any game in any grip form, with no loss of signal or strange glitching.
SteelSeries has created a great mouse here with the Sensei 310 with Truemove3 and the sensor performs beyond anything I have used before. The RBG lighting adds the bling effect many PC gamers look for within the systems and peripherals of late, including me. The ambidextrous design makes this mouse even more open to more games, I can not fault this mouse at all and will gain top marks from me, nice job SteelSeries this is the mouse to beat.
Opps almost forgot the boring tech specs
