A large amount of my teenage summers was spent lounging about in parks and various sunny areas listening to music, mostly punk. It started with phones, and slowly escalated to speakers. I have always been meaning to get one, and now TECEVO has sent me their T9 model to review. The T9 is a solid all-round speaker with enough features to allow better quality sound on the go.
The speaker itself feels almost invincible. While it won’t fit in your pocket unless you have huge pockets. The speaker is 15cm long and according to TECEVO weighs 235 grams. The device has 4 buttons on top: power, volume controls and a pause button which doubles as a call answer button. According to the manual, the device also has a microphone which I have not been able to discern a location for on the body but is definitely there. The charging port and 3.5mm aux port are hidden under a plastic cover on the side to keep the slim and smooth body look going.
The device at least is definitely a fashion piece. The body has a smooth black plastic finish, with varying colour front and back plates depending on the model bought. As stated earlier the device feels insanely solid. This could happily be thrown in a backpack and tossed around in a festival with no risk.
The clincher is the sound quality, and this device definitely does above and beyond. The speakers give a great range of sound, allowing even the most technical house a progressive music to be projected with range. For the technical, the frequency range is about 160 Hz – 20 Hz with minimal distortion (full specifications will be at the end.) It helps that this device can be pushed to neighbour-harassing volumes, though that will eat into the battery life.
The audio is not only the only part of this device which is high-quality. The device supports Bluetooth 3.0 which allows compatibility with any device on the market. The device is also NFC-enabled, though I had no device with NFC to test this feature, and you can always use the 3.5mm port on the side with the supplied cable if you’re feeling lazy. The rubber covering on the buttons and connection ports makes the device splash-proof and makes me feel like TECEVO really took time to make this device to a high level of quality.
There is really nothing inherently ‘wrong’ with this device. The battery will last up to 10 hours with a 3 hour charge, though ,dependant on the music this I’ve found closer to 7. The only thing that could even be considered an annoyance is the overly loud notification noise to show the device is on or paired, though if you have this on volume is likely the least of your concerns.
This device is pretty much perfection in my eyes. TECEVO have made a device of quality and sense. You can have your high quality music on the go and not worry about this device getting ruined in the first trickle of rain or puddle of mud. The T9 model retails currently for £44.95 in the UK, though Amazon currently has it on sale for £19.99, which is an insane bargain for the product you are getting. The more rugged models are also on sale for 24.95 if you wish for something a little tougher. As moot as this may seem at this point, this device gets a definitive 5.0 and is well worth the money.
