For Gamescom, NACON and KT Racing provided a complete overview of the new features included in WRC 9, the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship.
A few days before release, Alain Jarniou, Creative Director at KT Racing, discusses the game’s improvements in a new video.
The 2020 WRC season has had a number of changes due to the pandemic. Several rallies were cancelled, including three iconic countries that are featured in the game for the first time. This is a chance for fans to console themselves and try out three new circuits:
- The legendary Rally Kenya with its exotic landscapes alternating between wide-open savannah and small villages with very narrow roads
- •New Zealand, a very technical gravel rally with multiple bends in quick succession
- Japan, a rally on asphalt based in Nagoya with narrow mountain roads
The simulation aspect has been updated again this year with multiple redesigned elements, including the dynamics, AI, vehicle behaviour and driving sensations. All players can also fine-tune their cars before taking them for a test drive in different conditions on the free-roam zone’s roads.
A major new feature this year is the Clubs mode, which allows players to create their own championship and make it available for their friends or the whole community. They can select the vehicle category, championship conditions and up to eight special stages in their choice of country – a mode eagerly awaited by the community!
WRC 9 will have a longer lifespan thanks to several free updates after the game’s release. The new content to be added includes the Co-driver Mode, where two players can play together as a team online and enjoy the real rally experience. For an even more complete game, a Photo Mode will also be added, as well as new cars, teams and special stages in the Portugal and Finland rallies.
With WRC 9, the passionate developers of the French studio KT Racing have pulled out all the stops to once again meet the high expectations of rally fans looking for tougher challenges and heightened realism. With an enhanced career mode and many technical improvements, players are thrust into the heart of the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship season with many great highlights.
- 3 new rallies: Japan, New Zealand, Kenya
- Over 50 official teams and their livery from the WRC, WRC 2, WRC 3 and Junior WRC
- Over 15 bonus cars that have left their mark on the history of the WRC
WRC 9 will be available on September 3rd, 2020 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC from the Epic Games Store. Release timing for Xbox Series X, PS5 and Nintendo Switch will be announced at a later date.
