Retro gaming fans, get ready! PLAION and Retro Games Ltd. have just announced the launch of The Spectrum, a modern-day recreation of the iconic ZX Spectrum from 1982. Set to release across Europe on November 22, 2024, and priced at £89.99 (€99.99), this nostalgic machine is now available for pre-order.
Modern ZX Spectrum Trailer
The original ZX Spectrum was a symbol of the 1980s home computing revolution, and this updated version stays true to that legacy while adding some modern touches. The Spectrum comes packed with 48 pre-installed classic games, including Manic Miner, The Hobbit, and Horace Goes Skiing. It also features 720p HD output via HDMI, four USB ports for gamepads and joysticks, and a faithful replica of the legendary rubber keyboard.
For those who loved tinkering back in the day, the new Spectrum even includes BASIC programming, allowing you to create your own games just like the pioneers of the 1980s. Plus, you can rewind gameplay by up to 40 seconds, save your progress with four save slots per game, and add your own games via USB.
Simon Turner, PLAION UK’s Marketing Director, recalls the magic of the original ZX Spectrum:
“I remember getting the original for Christmas in 1982 and spending the entire day trying to master ‘Horace Goes Skiing’. The accessibility and low price point made it a beloved machine for so many, and we’ve worked hard to ensure this new version captures that same magic.”
