As CS:GO grew in popularity, so did the prize money being awarded in tournaments both official and unofficial. As of May 2021, there have been an estimated 5668 official CS:GO eSports tournaments and an estimated $113.8M in prize money given out since the game’s release.

In 2016, CS:GO had its first-ever $1M tournament at the MLG Major Championship in Columbus, Ohio. Since then, the largest prize money ever awarded for a CS:GO eSports tournament has risen to $1.5M which was awarded at the WESG 2016 and 2017 tournaments.

Denmark is the leading country in terms of total prize money won from CS:GO with an estimated $16.8M in total prize money won. The United States is second on the list with $12M in total prize money won, while Sweden was the only other country to have more than $10M in total earnings from CS:GO.
