I have reviewed so many headsets, it must seem that I am either a huge sad case, a greedy bugger or just some person trying to find the best gaming headset in the world.
Heroes of the Storm is a brand new MOBA game from Blizzard Entertainment and with the game comes a number of gaming peripherals to suit, well two, this a Headset from Turtle Beach and a SteelSeries Gaming mouse.
After a number of issues, I have been sent to review the new Turtle Beach: Heroes of the Storm Gaming headset, for PC Mac and Mobile gaming. I have a shed load of headsets already, so having another one to add to my collection is awesome, but it also gives me a chance to see where this headset stands when it comes to my high expectations and standards.
First off, this is my first ever Turtle Beach Headset, what strikes me more, is the companies claim to be #1 in gaming audio, when I have used the SteelSeries Syberia V3, which has won No1 gaming headset in the world. So lets go scan the box and its selling points.
Heroes of the Storm screams all over the front cover, you would not even know that this was a Turtle Beach headset, as the logo is right down at the bottom of the product on the *left hand side (*when viewing the product). Right at the top is a huge logo screaming Heroes of the Storm followed by PC Gaming Headset. All front and back selling points are in two languages, English as the primary with French as its second language.
All the main selling points are in the front, Epic 50mm Speakers, High-Sensitivity Microphone and Convenient in-line controls. If that was not enough, you also get a FREE in-game character when you register your headset with Turtle Beach.
Moving around to the back you get a brief description about Heroes of the Storm and why you should be purchasing this headset

Now that’s all over, lets move to personal usage, and my general thoughts about the headset. The first thing that came to my mind when putting the headset on was, ‘this feels similar to the Cloud II headset from HyperX’. The headband gives plenty of comfort, thanks to the padding. When you have the headset on, you can really feel the grip, not in a bad way, it did not hurt, it was reasonable. Instead of leather earcups, you have fabric earcups, these are great for people that sweet a lot and game for long periods of time, but not good for keeping the sound isolated to the user. As my partner keeps saying to me, ‘OMG I can hear that sound, from all the way over here’, 6ft away, compared the my leather earcup headphones, which blocks all sound from escaping, which makes gaming more personal. Or as an old YouTube Video, created using World of Warcraft characters loves to say ‘The Internet is for Porn’, these headsets are not that good for being sneaky and anyone will know what you are sneakily watching, while pretending to game.
I have been a massive fan of Blizzard Entertainment way back when Warcraft was an RTS, not too far back, around Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2, and I have purchased every game since then, Diablo 3, World of Warcraft and the new F2P Heroes of the Storm. Going to admit I no longer play WOW, quit during Catalcysm to start ‘Invision Game Community’ and go to University, and I have not played much of Heroes of the Storm apart from the Alpha and Beta and some of the launch.
The headset might be designed with the consent of Blizzard to sell, or go with Heroes of the Storm, but don’t just think of it like that, this headset is well deigned, looks and feels great on and the sound quality it awesome, thanks to the 50mm drivers. If you wish to have some sort of Virtual Soroundsound, you can download Razer’s free software the emulates 7.1 on any headset.
I have always used SteelSeries Branded Headsets and own all of them now, and I love the way, they allow the microphone to go into the earcup, and store it when not in use. This headset comes with a detachable Boom Microphone, which is also highly sensitive and picks some background noise but not too much.
The inline controls make controlling the headset super easy, and saves going back and forth to the systems own speaker controls. This is not new and can be found on almost any headset, some headsets, though have moved to having all controls on the earcups, something like the Steelseries Wireless H headset.
The swappable speaker plates are a unique idea, but damn super hard to remove and chuck on a different design, having the flexibility is a great feature of the headset. If you don’t want Heroes of the Storm shining all the time, replace it with something else.
Oh yeah, you also get a free Heroes of the Storm in-game character, this is one of the F2P Microtransactions within the game, and how Blizzard Entertainment makes money from the platform.
Overall though, being a wired headset, has its limitations, like cable length, does not give you much room to move around, just enough though to keep within your gaming area. The sound quality with the 50mm drivers are very impressive and can pull out low and high sound frequencies with ease. They clamp to your head, with just enough force to make them feel comfortable on, and with the use of cloth material, you can use them for very long periods without worrying about sweating.
If you are looking for a high quality headset, great design, wired, customisable, great sound and you are a great Blizzard Entertainment Fan or simply looking for a great headset, this headset should make it into your collection or your first ever gaming headset.
