According to the research data analyzed and published by SafeBettingSites.com, Twitch set a new record of 6.06 million concurrent viewers in June 2020. The previous record, set in April 2020 was 4.47 million, and prior to that, the all-time peak was 3.99 million in August 2018.
Twitch also set a new record of over 5.06 billion hours watched during Q2 2020, up from a previous peak of 3.11 billion set in Q1. It marked a 62.7% growth quarter-over-quarter (QoQ), and an increase of 83.1% year-on-year (YoY).
Twitch Holds 67.6% Market Share in Total Hours Watched
Another record that Twitch broke in Q2 2020 was in total hours streamed, from 121.40 million in Q1 192.70 million in Q2. The increase was 58.7% QoQ and 80.1% YoY.
Unique channels also hit a new high, increasing 63.9% from 6.10 million in Q1 to 9.99 million in Q2. Its market share in terms of total hours watched during the quarter was 67.6%. YouTube Gaming was second with 20%, Facebook Gaming third with 11% and Mixer fourth with 1.4%.
In terms of total hours streamed, Twitch had a 76.5% market share and 61.3% in terms of unique channels. As of September 29, 2020, viewers have watched 13.06 billion hours in total, a 59.1% increase YoY. And the number of monthly streamers is 6.2 million, up by 71% YoY.
YouTube Gaming reported a 39.1% increase in hours watched, while Facebook and Mixer had 48.5% and 30.6% respectively. While Twitch is a clear leader globally, Tencent might soon upend the status quo. It is involved in a merger deal between top Chinese livestreaming sites Huya and DouYu. The combined market cap of the two surpasses $10 billion while active monthly users number over 300 million, which is way above Twitch users.
