Counter-Strike still reigns supreme
The 2020 International was originally due to take place in Stockholm, Sweden but eSport fans in the country will be treated to an alternative event later in 2021 thanks to the Counter-Strike PGL Major. The tournament is hosted by hosted by PGL and it will be the sixteenth Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event. 24 teams will qualify for the tournament via regional major rankings and compete to win a share of the $2,000,000 prize pool. The organisation of the tournament is key as the teams will need to travel to the arena to participate in the competition and if Sweden is not in a position to accept visitors, the Counter-Strike PGL Major may have to be moved to a different country at short notice. Two other European countries have already offered all the necessary guarantees to host the event, meaning the Counter-Strike PGL Major will go ahead this year and is likely to be played at the end of October and beginning of November.
Moving into December and we come to the Counter-Strike Global Final 2021. With a $1,000,000 prize pool on offer to the participants, this is a popular event and is also known as the BLAST Premier: World Final 2021. There are several Spring and Fall events throughout the year, which act as qualifying tournaments to see which teams are going to reach the Counter-Strike Global Final 2021. The play offs are due to take place between the 14th and 19th of December and a double-elimination bracket follows to decide the winner. All matches at the best of three and the winners will walk away with $500,000.
