Independent Finnish developer MiTale has announced that Willow Guard will receive its next major expansion, Frostreign, launching on April 23 for PC via Steam.
This new DLC continues the story-driven dark fantasy journey, introducing new locations, characters, and challenges as players once again step into the role of the brave badger hero, Ghweros.

A New Chapter Begins
In the base game, Ghweros fought to defend the animal kingdom from relentless monster threats, battling through detailed pixel-art dungeons. Frostreign picks up that story, sending players on a new mission to the region of Regnum Polis.
With another looming monster attack ahead of the next Solstice, the stakes are once again high as Ghweros takes up his sword to protect the realm.
Meet SĂşri, a New Companion
One of the biggest additions in this expansion is SĂşri, a young wolverine cub who joins Ghweros on his journey. Despite her age, SĂşri brings impressive combat abilities and acts as a valuable companion throughout the adventure.
Together, the pair must face the growing threat from creatures emerging from Alteros, while also uncovering deeper mysteries tied to the world itself.
Exploring a Frozen World
The Frostreign DLC introduces harsh, unrelenting winter conditions that reshape the way players explore. Navigation now relies on ancient portals scattered across the land, adding a new layer to both traversal and storytelling.
As players progress, they’ll gather clues, discover hidden items, and piece together the secrets behind the portals and the dangers threatening their home.
Combat and Progression Return
Gameplay in Willow Guard remains focused on fast-paced action, blending hack-and-slash combat with strategic character progression.
- Upgrade gear to improve survivability and damage output
- Build and customise a deck of ability cards, including ranged and healing skills
- Adapt your playstyle through different combat builds
The Inclination system also returns, allowing players to shape Ghweros’ personality and leadership style through their choices, adding a layer of role-playing depth to the experience.
