I should hope that all of you follow my reviews religiously by now, especially since it’s a huge boost to my growing God complex which seems to be so high now that I’ve taken to calling myself Zeus when I formally introduce myself to people, a few more lessons and I should have that whole lightning act nailed down, but if you have really been reading my reviews then you’ll know I’ve done a couple of them about the delightful free games that are on Nutaku and my latest review will be about their brand new game Flower Knight Girl.
As some of you may be aware, Nutaku is a website which hosts a load of free flash games which have been wonderfully transformed from their Japanese counterparts into fully playable English games, but have still kept the badass Japanese weapons because it wouldn’t be a Japanese game if your character didn’t jump 100 feet into the swinging a sword like the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. They’re well known now for the large amount of anime games that they host such as Angelic Saga Online and Kanpani Girls.
So, Flower Knight Girl starts off with a little video which explains how the flowers have all been withering and bad people have made pacts with evil in order to prevent it all the flowers from withering. You’re then given my favorite part of the game, seeing a whole heap of Japanese girls in skimpy outfits with weapons far too big for them but still not as large as their cleavage. To be fair though, all of the characters are well designed and I don’t expect anything different considering how much work goes into the games when it comes to the graphical element and it really does pay off with some truly amazing graphics and visual content. When it comes to anime games most people don’t expect a lot but the amount of graphics and depth that goes into Nutaku hosted games really does pay off, for an anime based game it’s of very high quality and the graphics are beautiful,.
The story goes through how the World of Flowers by Worldflowers, a source of all life and earth which blessed the earth with all things beautiful. Whilst peace was thought to last forever, The Harbinger of Doom turned things topsy turvy by turning all the blissful bugs of the world into the pugnacious Pests. Fortunately though, a group of good and righteous fighters known as The Flower Knights dared to rise up and take back the peace that had forever been lost with their Captain at the helm, unfortunately a thousand years have passed since that day, until now. You’re quickly greeted as The Knight Commander, so you can probably guess that you play an important part in this incredible story. So, what are you waiting for? Go save the world!
Whilst you’re making your way through the intricate story line you can also choose to take on some of the side quests which are available. These will reward you with some extra exp and some lovely little goodies to keep your babes happy as Larry, although I’m sure Larry would be pretty happy just playing this game. New quests will sprout up all the time and will always come when you’ve completed one of the current quests so be sure to stay on top of them in order to earn yourself some nice treats.
After the initial sequence you’ll be taken to the tutorial mission where you get to learn all about battling with your new flower warriors. You have multiple nodes on the map and you move forward using the next button. Your goal is to get them from the start to the finish of the map whilst battling evil pests with your glorious weapons and as you move to certain nodes you’ll get coins, gachas, items or other rewards. Sounds easy right? Well you’d be wrong. Certain nodes will contain monsters which your girls will fight and on top of that there’s a boss which you will have to conquer. Once you’ve reached the end then it’s mission complete. Completing the mission will give you all the rewards you picked up and getting medals in the fights will reward you with a flower gem which can be used to restore stamina or get new knights.
Your girls will do all the fighting for you so you have to make sure they have the ability to win that fight. Whilst an element of moving over to manual fighting would be nice, you still need to keep an eye on strategy and keep building your team otherwise you’ll start to fall at a disadvantage. The best way to do this is by using the gacha daily to get new warriors, fighting through the maps to gain exp and by sacrificing ( 🙁 ) your knights to make other ones stronger. You can build a couple of squads so that you can approach each battle with a different strategy, so if something isn’t quite working for you then feel free to switch over to something else and then give it a try, or you can auto-select your team and pick your strongest attackers, your most brutal defenders, or your highest health characters, there’s lots of settings so be sure to mess around with them a bit. Also you get an awesome blast button, which is kind of your ‘let’s destroy everything’ button which comes in very handy in a pinch.
Each of your flower knights has their own unique personality, abilities and statistics, so finding the right combination can be very rewarding especially considering that the enemies are weak against certain attack types, not to mention that your knights will have a star rating, it’s clear to say that the more amount of stars the stronger that your characters will be and the more they will aid you in battle, especially if you can get hold of the unique five star or higher knights.
.
Certain warriors will also have nice little buffs at the start or during battle which can help them out quite considerably, so this is really a game that encourages you to try different combinations to find one that will really win and destroy everything and if they’re really awesome you can give them some cake (or take it all for yourself >:D ). Seriously though, giving cake to your warriors will boost their affection which has a positive effect, not only will it make them far more brutal when fighting but it will also unlock some nice voice samples which can be heard in the game. Furthermore the combat is enhanced with some awesome critical hit animations which are all completely unique to your characters which really gets you into the heat of battle. It’s nice to see the different combinations that the warriors use and to test new knights if only to see their awesome abilities come into play.
Nutaku has always had a way to encourage players to log in on a daily basis and Flower Knight Girl is no exception to that. Daily logins will score you a new badass warrior to use in your fights and using some of the features that are time based will allow you to recover stamina, get some nice rewards or get more girls for your team so it’s really worth the daily log in to keep things going. Furthermore you can use the gather function every 2 hours so you can regain stamina and get some cool rewards just for staying logged in.
The sound links in with the feel of the game. A lot of the background music is very much based on your old time war based music, so get ready to hear a lot of drum beats and music fit for your knights. It fits in really well, especially when paired together with the sound effects from a fight or from the voices of your character and in a game like this it’s nice to see that the sound has been emphasized just as much as the graphics have.
One of the key features of the game is before going into battle you are able to select another commanders squad to help you in your fighting. Nutaku has a nact for incorporating friendly play in their games and more friends means that you will have a higher selection of helper units for missions to allow you to progress further in the game so it really does pay to use this function, especially considering how easy and effective it can be. Furthermore, once you’ve selected someone they are added to your friends so you can keep that loving friendship going for as long as you want. You also have the same privilege when it comes to the allies feature, so once you’ve assembled your strongest warriors other players will be able to select them and start kicking ass with them too.
Flower Knight Girl is definitely a very good addition to the already growing roster that Nutaku has such as Kanpani Girls and Angelic Saga Online and will certainly keep you entertained for hours on end. The graphics are really something spectacular and when combined with the sound give the game a very nice ambience towards the entire game. Nutaku have proven once again that they are the top contenders when it comes to Japanese RPG and Action Adventure browser games and that’s definitely something that they should be proud of.
