It has been a long time since I checked out a controller from MegaModz, and since I now own a Nintendo Switch, and I really liked my other custom made controllers from them I thought why not splash out and purchase one. As I said in my original look at the company they are an American based company so any UK gamers that love these controllers, be aware that the HMRC will be taking their fair share through Duties and Taxes.
As before the controllers are easy to create, just head to this page, if not interested in creating your own there are some custom created ones here. I did see the design I wanted within the pre-designed ones, but I wanted Blue L & R Bumper and ZL & ZR Trigger, so I had to spend a little more. It is worth it, as the final design is sweet.
Creating your custom controller is simple, choose Body Design, Bumper, Triggers, D-Pad, ABXY Buttons and the Grip styles then chose Build Time And Warranty Plan under SERVICES. Compared to other controllers that the company offers, there seems to be a lack of choice when it comes to body designs which were a shame. I would have loved to of seen some Nintendo Inspired designs, or third-party designs, though I guess having these come at a cost to MegaModz due to IP laws. Then you also have to consider the amount of time the system has been out for, give it some time and I feel there will be more designs available.
After designing, the total cost for the finished controller was $109.96 which is £85.10, with a standard official Switch Pro Controller costing around £54.99. You are only paying £30.11 extra to have a uniquely designed controller just for you, plus delivery costs and stupid Duties and Taxes.
As with every controller I have purchased from MegaModz, the quality of the skins are amazing, well placed, no errors, no rips, they fit perfectly and the finish is pure quality. When you are using the custom created controller, and comparing it to the original, you will find that the functionality is exactly the same, the is literally no difference. You also never have to worry about fingerprint marks thanks to the skin being matt finished.
The controller arrives in an Official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller box, so you know instantly you are not getting a third-grade pile of shit. You are getting a 100% Official controller, which is good news, as I have heard some horrific, stories where people have spent a lot and all they have gotten was a Chinese knock off.
I have tested this controller on a number of games, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Dragon Quest XI, Ni-No-Kuni and many more, I even took the controller over to a friends house to play some local and online co-op game. He commented on the controller, saying ‘he loved the design and would prefer this one over the original‘ which he was using. I personally have to agree, having a custom design is much better than the plain boring designed version you can purchase.
So after spending a little more for a switch controller, do I think the extra costs added to the controller was worth it? I would say Yes, as paying an extra £30.00 to me was nothing, less than two hours of my wage and the final design is top-notch, just look at the picture above. Also owning a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One Controller from the company, both of the top-notch, what more could I have hoped for?
So we have come to my final thoughts, would I spend my money again at MegaModz? yes sure I would, I have no issues purchasing from them, I love my custom designed controllers. What I would love to see in future, is their already customised controllers on a UK/EU Marketplace place like Amazon to help bring down the costs for us.
