Last week’s Master Rank Kulve Taroth came out with a bang. It made some pretty jaw-dropping armour designs while still making the set somewhat usable in certain situations. The individual pieces do have its worth with some of it being better if not on par with current sets today. But the main takeaway here is that there are now more hunters playing a support role while still looking fashionable. Fast-forward to May 1st then we get to experience the second half of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s version 13.50 update. The Arch-Tempered Namielle.
In a nutshell, the AT Nami is just a beefed up Namielle that hits harder with added move sets. Available from the first of May to the 15th, hunters with Master Rank 100 and above will be able to partake in this endeavour. But unlike the fire truck that is Namielle, the Arch-Tempered version will be fought in a different place inside the Coral Highlands and gets agitated much quicker than every other elder dragon making it impossible to do two wall bangs in a row for its initial encounter. So make the best out of it by doing up to three claw attacks to make it easier to soften the head especially if you’re running a light weapon like the dual blades or sword and shield.
Similar to the regular Namielle, AT Nami shares the same two forms. One where its body is hydrated with water making it more resistant to raw attacks but weaker to elemental like fire and two stars on dragon. Meanwhile, the dehydrated version shows up after unleashing its ultimate move, the large electric discharge. This move has a slow wind up time that can be noticed when it starts spreading water in the field then jumping to the sky before diving back down like a lightning strike, discharging all its electricity to the area. It is best avoided by doing a superman dive to avoid getting carted. But with the right skill build like the Kjarr “Rage” HBG with 3 shield mods, guard 5 and guard up skills, you can easily block the move and survive it.
In its dehydrated state, Namielle becomes weaker to raw attacks but becomes more resistant to elemental. So if you’re running with a team mainly focused on raw damage, being able to keep him in its dehydrated form such as mounting, flinch shots, inflicting status ailments or flashing when it starts leaving the area is something that is best not overlooked.
As for what skills and equipment is best used around the fight itself, the good but old Health 3 and Divine Blessing 3 or 5 is a good option to start it off to make you survive more hits considering how much the dragon loves to attack with its water and electric attacks that covers large areas. Being a dragon that commands the Water and Thunder element, it would also be great option to have both elemental resistances should you have the slot for them in your build however should you only have one free slot to take them in, Thunder Resistance would be more advisable to get you out of a possible cart when you can’t avoid its large electric discharge. Having Blight Resistance would also be ideal to avoid the waterblight but nullberries and a water mantle does the same effect.
If you have a slow-sheathing weapon like a greatsword or charge blade, slotting in Guard and Guard Up skills can be very useful to survive its lethal attacks especially when you’re mid-combo when it starts jumping for the electric discharge. Recovery Up is also advisable to bring for the fight to recover more health from Mega Potions without having to run out that much quicker if you get hit a lot. Meanwhile, Free Meal gives you a chance to not consume an item and still get its benefits while Fortify is something you normally wouldn’t prefer to get activated but would still be good if it does happen. Having a Temporal Mantle also makes your chances of survivability a tad bit higher especially if you run it with Tool Specialist to decrease the downtimes. But as it is an event where you normally just want the special ticket to craft its armour and other goodies, the Kirin Set Bonus is a superb option to have as it increases your rewards should you manage to survive the fight and slay the dragon.
Below is a video showcasing my run with the greatsword running the Kirin Alpha Chest and Kirin Beta Waist plus a Safi weapon that has the Kirin Divinity to activate its set bonus. It can also be beneficial to have an evade extender to make your dodges farther and avoid electric attacks but it’s something best left alone unless you have a free slot.
Meanwhile, this is the run where I used the Kjarr “Rage” Heavy Bowgun using the Safi’jiiva armour set that focused on fire elemental ammo. This is the safer approach to the fight and if you augment the weapon with health, you can self-sustain your HP through attacking the head while avoiding hitting the black part of the dragon’s wings as it nullifies shot damage.
The new Namielle armour set requires five Namielle Tickets to craft which if you’re running with the Kirin Set Bonus activated, can easily be done in two AT Nami hunts. But unlike the Raging Brachydios, Furious Rajang or Kulve Taroth set of armours, the Namielle γ+ Armour Set doesn’t come with the crazy flexibility with deco slots but what it does have is a crazy amount of default skills such as the chest piece with a lvl 4 evade window and lvl 2 water attack while the leg piece can take advantage of a lvl 4 constitution skill and a lvl 2 thunder attack. The set itself makes for a very evasive-heavy build fit for the likes of bow and dual blade hunters.
Other than the armour itself, Namielle tickets also allow you to craft the Black Belt, Guardian and Artian layered armour sets, the acrobat and showman layered head piece as well as being used to upgrade the Evade Window charm to level 5. All in all, it takes 11 Namielle tickets to be able to craft all of its offerings.
