Tencent Games and PUBG Corporation (PUBG Corp.) announced the company’s recently launched “Survive Till Dawn,” PUBG MOBILE and Resident Evil 2 crossover is gaining a massive player following. The latest cross-branding operation by PUBG MOBILE, the new gameplay follows promotions with PUBG MOBILE X MI6 and in-game promotions with fashion brand BAPE. This current “Survive Till Dawn” collaboration marks the first time Resident Evil has worked with a mobile IP on a global scale.
The most recent Resident Evil 2 is a re-imagining of the 1998 game of the same name, with the latest technology. It was launched on January 25th as the latest installment in the series, and has already shipped over 4 million copies as of February 27th.
Gamers are flocking to the intense gameplay of Survive till Dawn where they compete against other gamers as well hordes of different Resident Evil zombies. It adds new elements of strategy and excitement to the classic PUBG MOBILE experience. It combines the “shrinking circle” element of the game with a compelling night mode that unleashes the zombies’ enhanced strength and ferocity. Iconic characters from the Resident Evil universe such as Tyrant are part of the gameplay. Players who defeat such characters gain access to trophy recognition as well as rare weapons.
“We knew this new ‘Survive Till Dawn’ mode would be a hit, but didn’t imagine the incredible reactions from the fans and the gaming media,” said Vincent Wang, General Manager of Global Publishing Center, Tencent. “Our designers got the details just right, by creating a mode where players dread nightfall because the classic Resident Evil zombies and main characters come out to wreak mayhem.”
“The Zombie mode puts emphasis on survival. It is immensely enjoyable and very well-done,” said Capcom Resident Evil 2’s Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda. “The characters and zombies from Resident Evil 2 were also faithfully restored in the mode.”
In development for over six months, the “Survive Till Dawn” gameplay mode was furiously enhanced and optimized by the Tencent team. The gameplay was tested repeatedly to ensure the Resident Evil 2 component was integrated seamlessly and provided players with a challenging and immersive environment.
After the launch, PUBG MOBILE gained for the first time a feature placement on the App Store home page, appearing on the page of more than 154 countries on February 20th. “Survive Till Dawn” was also positively highlighted in many gaming publications throughout the world and received mainstream media attention in Forbes and other notable outlets.
PUBG MOBILE has enjoyed unprecedented success since its launch, exceeding 30 million daily active users and 200 million downloads in just eight months. In 2018, PUBG MOBILE took home multiple awards and nominations, just eight months after the game’s release. The game earned three awards at the Google Play Awards last month, including “Best Game.” It also won the “Mobile Game of the Year” award at the 2018 Golden Joysticks and received nominations from The Game Awards and the App Store.
