With the cost of living crisis impacting millions of people across the UK, I thought you might be interested in new research that reveals how much money you could earn alongside your regular salary by playing video games.
Data from the business comparison experts at Bionic has revealed that some freelancers are earning in excess of £37,000 by playing games with people online.
Bionic analysed data from the freelance platform Fiverr to look at how much money top-selling freelancers were making in various lifestyle niches. Their minimum project charges were assessed alongside their number of orders delivered to create an overall ranking of the most profitable side hustles – many of which anyone can do from the comfort of their home.

Other popular ways of making money included creating content for YouTube (£42,503). recording gameplay (£10,264), and creating or managing Discord servers (£8,417),

Les Roberts, Content Manager at Bionic commented on the findings:
“While the data we have here showcases plenty of fun services on offer, the most important thing it highlights is just how many people now rely on freelance work to supplement their income.
“There’s no doubt that a large share of families are in a tough position financially at the moment. Rising costs of energy, food and just about everything else are pushing people to find sources of income outside of their normal working hours.
“This growing freelance economy isn’t likely to slow down until wages catch up to inflation, which could be well into 2023 or beyond. But since it seems to work for households and businesses alike, we might see people adjust to this new way of living.
“Could that in turn make things like the four-day work week more feasible for the UK? Small businesses are the backbone of the UK economy, but it’s entirely possible that side hustles become the new normal even after the economy recovers.”
