It’s been a while since I last attended a big expo. Thankfully Birmingham hosts a good amount throughout the year. With Birmingham being in my neck of the woods, I wasn’t going to let the opportunity slip and made it my mission to get a hold of tickets for i70.
I have been to a wide array of events in the past, Eurogamer and Hyper Japan to name a few but since COVID struck, I feel that I haven’t gone to an expo in a long time. I want to put an end to this with Insomnia 70.
The expo is running from the 7th of April 2023 to the 10th of April 2023 and is being held at the amazing NEC Birmingham. I have been to EGX at this venue and have to say the atmosphere is fantastic so I can’t wait to see what Insomnia has to offer when partnered with this venue. For those that might be wondering what Insomnia is, it is the ultimate gaming experience where you can immerse yourself in a world of non-stop gaming. You can get hands-on with the latest video games, and retro classics as well as meet up with fellow gamers, attend panels and go to meet and greets where they will have a selection of your favourite creators. If you are into competitive gaming there will even be tournaments that you can participate in and prizes up for grabs. If this wasn’t enough there will also be tabletop games for people to play too which is awesome because I love tabletop games as much as video games. Top this off with live performances and cosplay competitions you will never run out of things to do.
Tickets range from £27 up to £110, depending on what package you want to go for. Kids under 6 can get in for free so if you have a little one that’s starting their gaming journey why not take them along. There will be lots of merchandise on sale and a huge marketplace that will have everything you need on offer. I can’t wait to spend some money on some cool new gaming accessories for my setup.
If you are a fan of VR or want to try it out for the first time there is a whole section dedicated to this. They also have racing simulators for those that love racing games and want to be fully immersed in their gaming experience. For those seeking a maximum immersive experience why not try out Zombie Checkpoint, this will cost you £15 a ticket but is hosted by Zombie Infection the UK’s largest provider of live-action zombie experiences. This is something I’m really hyped for and want to try out. Not that I think I will survive long but it sounds like such a fun thing to do with friends and fellow gamers. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who would love to experience a zombie outbreak but with the safety of knowing that I won’t turn.
Are you a fan of the Resident Evil series? Then you’ll be happy to know that a few of the voice actors will be at the expo for a chance to get photos and autographs. There will be Stephanie Panisello the voice of Claire Redfield, Nicole Tompkins the voice of Jill Valentine, and Nick Apostolides the voice of Leon S Kennedy. These are only a few of the many voices actors that will be attending. I would love the chance to meet some of them and speak about their incredible career. There will also be content creators present which again is an excellent opportunity to meet your favourites. It’s just under a week now till I travel to Birmingham to experience my first expo in over three years. I’m nervous but incredibly excited because it brings me joy to attend events with like-minded people and also to see what the industry has to offer. I love seeing all the cosplays of characters and the buzz of the expo hall is something that can’t be replicated. Insomnia 70 is an affordable experience that any gamer would be silly to pass up. It’s easily accessible by transport links and can cater to big crowds. If you have the weekend free then why not spend it at the NEC Birmingham at i70. I will be attending on Saturday where I will be covering the event and making the most of my Easter weekend.
