I feel like I saw this DLC coming. When I finished reviewing the last pack, I said how it would be awesome if we got a pack based on Dominion and here it is. Though I honestly didn’t think it would be as big as it is. It’s available for players to purchase and play now and if you are as big of a Jurassic fan as I am, then you won’t want to miss out on this.
After watching the New Jurassic World Dominion film, I wasn’t really too happy with it, I had given myself too much hype and it sadly didn’t live up to my expectations. Though I knew that Frontier would be able to restore some of my faith with Jurassic World as everything they have released so far had been awesome. When I saw that this pack came with a new campaign mode, chaos mode and lots of extra goodies I knew it was something I wanted to get my hands on.
The campaign mode is split into two parts, I won’t go into too much detail as it spoils the film for those that haven’t watched it. The first part is basically building a sanctuary rather than a park and the second is part is similar but has some obstacles that you have to overcome to make a perfect sanctuary for your dinosaurs. It also sees iconic characters from the franchise coming in to voice their roles within the game. These are the likes of Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Campbell Scott. These really help bring a good dialogue and story to the campaign even if it does feel a tad bit on the short side. The Chaos mode was probably the most challenging one to date but is well worth the challenge and for me the consent restarting.
Though for me this DLC is all about the new Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Species. Not only that but we finally get feathered dinosaurs in the form of the Pyrorpator and a skin for the T-Rex as seen briefly in the Dominion film. You also get the Quetzalcoatlus, Therizinosaurus and Dimetrodon, which are brilliant additions to anyone’s park. The Dominion Biosyn Expansion comes with six new dinosaurs skins, Two brand new variants from the new film and a lot more. The film skin for the Giga is so beautiful and I love the way it looks in-game, it is nice to get some update Dilophosaurus skins too again based on the film.
With this DLC we get a new Biosyn Valley map which is playable in Sandbox mode and the campaign for this DLC. Chaos theory comes with some new mechanics that help change how the game plays. One of these is the new Dinosaur Wrangling feature, which allows you to move dinosaurs around without having to tranquillise them first. This is done by using ranger vehicles and moving them from point A to B. Its is so much fun and a neat little feature.
This game keeps providing for its players and even more so with the free update 3 that launched alongside this DLC. There are plenty of quality-of-life changes that have been implemented to make your parks more accessible for visitors and just easier to manage. Frontier continue to give love and attention to Jurassic World Evolution 2 and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for use further down the line. I would love to get a Hybrid DLC pack that comes with loads of new and never before seen hybrids or even just a big Prehistoric pack that comes with Mammoths and Saber Tooth Tigers. The current Dinosaurs available are more than enough with a huge offing but it would be nice to see more and more so that we can continue to love this game.
My favourite parts of this DLC are the new prehistoric animals, the different skins and the invisible fences. These allow you to feel closer to the dinosaurs and get some epic photos without seeing fencing in the background also the cool little hyper tunnels that allow for people to move about your parks really help make the parks look not so clustered. The new map location is really cool and a nice size. It has fog that comes in every now and then which really adds to the landscape and the big Biosyn HQ that sits at the top of the map looks really cool and I love the little river that flows from it. I feel with this DLC pack you get a bit of everything when it comes to content but I’m still here for the dinosaurs as I feel the more dinosaurs I get to showcase in my parks the happier I am and to be honest the more I will buy.
Conclusion
Frontier has delivered with their biggest DLC yet for Jurassic World Evolution 2. It is packed full of content and offers so much for the player to sink their teeth into. The asking price this time around might seem like a lot at £15.99 but when you look at what is in the pack you can justify the price. You get a whole new campaign mode split into two parts, a chaos theory mode and new Dinosaurs and prehistoric species. Though in all honesty, the first part of the campaign felt slow the over mode was enjoyable and I loved all the new features that were on offer mainly the invisible fencing as it literally looks like the dinosaurs have free roam in the park/sanctuary. Seeing the Therizinosaurus, Dimetrodon and of course, the Gigantosaurus in-game is amazing and watching them interact in the world is gorgeous. I love it when the Gigantosaurus is walking through the forest and there is that slight bit of fog lingering on the map., it truly makes it fiercer and more terrifying. We all get some new skins that are based on the Dominion film, so it is safe to say that this DLC pack is packed full of content for any Jurassic Fan. For these reasons I’m happy to give this DLC pack 8 out of 10 purely because of the amount of new content, it brings to the core game as well as its campaign mode and chaos theory mission.
