Frontier Developments have graced us with another DLC pack for Jurassic World Evolution 2. It comes in the form of some feathered friends. That’s right we are getting four new prehistoric species that feature magnificent plumage that will truly captivate your guests. It wasn’t the DLC I was expecting but it was one where all the species in the pack look fantastic and all had their own unique qualities. This pack comes out alongside Update 6 which also comes with some new goodies for our parks and as always, it’s free of charge.
You might be wondering what feathered friends Frontier have provided in this pack, we get a new flyer, a new small dinosaur, a feathered tyrant and one of the largest ornithomimosaurs ever discovered. These are:
Yutyrannus: This is one of the largest known feathered dinosaurs to eat meat and its name translates to ‘feathered tyrant’. It has a nasal crest for display purposes and a coat to provide warmth when the temperature drops.
Jeholopterus: A flying reptile and the smallest airborne species in the game. To this day Palaeontologists have only found one specimen.
Deinocheirus: Arms longer than any bipedal dinosaur, the Deinocheirus with its duck-like bill and broad hump on its back make for an odd but fascinating dinosaur. Even though this dinosaur looks like it could pack a hard hit it exclusively lived of plants.
Sinosauropteryx: This tiny meat-eating dinosaur is covered in hair-like feathers and has a striped tail. They work together and hunt in packs like the Compsognathus. Discovered in 1996, it was the first remains found that suggest that feathered dinosaurs were a thing and that they could potentially have been coloured as well.
The pack is £5.99 and one that I’d be happy to pay to have these four as an option in my park. The interactions you get from these new species amongst themselves and exciting dinosaurs is brilliant and I love how we got Deinocheirus in the game as it is one dinosaur that has been popping up a lot more and further highlights the fact that dinosaurs come in all shapes and sizes. Yutyrannus was one of my favourite dinosaurs to tame in Ark Survival Evolved as I loved the feathered look and its ability that Studio Wildcard gave it in their game, so when I saw that Frontier was putting it into Evolution 2, I wanted to make sure I got a few of them in my park and on show. I loved the model and level of detail they put into these dinosaurs and my inner child comes out every time I see a new dinosaur come out of the hatchery for the first time.
The addition of another flyer was welcomed and even more, when you get to see it, it’s a fuzzy little reptile that looks like a bat. When you see it eating its food from the insect feeder and flying around the aviary alongside your other flyers, they bring a big personality in the smallest form. The MVP of this DLC pack is the Sinosauropteryx, this fluffy little monster is so cute and adorable. I loved watching them when they came out of the hatchery and also loved how the colours and patterns looked on them. They are awesome to watch in enclosures and when they are pack hunting it is awesome even if they are weak. I watched them attack a human and the human flung them away and they died. These little rascals are a great addition to any park and I would highly recommend this pack based on these little guys alone but of course, you do get three others to come along for the ride. With the added attraction in update 6, you are able to marvel at these feathered species in new ways and get close and personal which brings out the best in this DLC pack.
Conclusion
For the low asking price of £5.99, Frontier Developments has done it again and got themselves a happy park owner. I loved adding these four species to my parks and I loved making enclosures for them. At this point in Jurassic World Evolution 2 new DLC packs and updates keep me going, I heavily play Sandbox nowadays after completing the campaigns and trying the challenge modes. It’s nice that Frontier does offer free updates and keeps adding to the game because it shows that they are still invested in providing for the player base. The new dinosaurs were a surprise as I didn’t see feathered dinosaurs coming, the ones they went for are brilliant and add so much to the game in terms of interaction and personality. As a huge dinosaur lover, I can’t turn down new additions and to have a park builder based on Jurassic Park is everything I wanted I’m glad that Frontier is the one doing it and still showing gamers that they care for the franchise. I wonder what is in store for the next DLC pack, my previous predictions haven’t been close so I wonder if the next one will bring more hybrids to the game or whether they will venture down a prehistoric route. Either way, I can’t wait to see what’s in store and I will keep plodding along and building parks that I can enjoy showing off and going around in first-person mode. The Feathered Species Pack is one that I didn’t think I needed but am glad we got and for those reasons, I’m rating this pack a 9 out of 10 for providing more quality content to an already fantastic game.
