As you are already aware the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 comes in a number of parts, the board (LxWxH): 82x33x3 cm, Cushion Arms (LxWxH): 60x20x16 cm, Power Cables, Power Plug, and Mouse Pouch.
Setting up is simple. place yourself on your sofa, or large sofa chair, place the cushions on either side of you, then place the board on top. You can even place a mouse pouch on the back of the board to hold your mouse when not in use.
Need more pouches, no problem, on the left cushion there is one small mesh pouch and one big pouch to hold drinks, food, or anything else you fancy.
The one thing I have not mentioned yet are the 3M Velcro Rolls that allow you to stick down your keyboard to the board, personally, I do not think I will do this, I shall try and find a mouse mat that will cover the whole board and rest my keyboard and mouse upon that. If you do decide to do this you do get a Couchmaster mouse mat.
Cable management is always a concern when PC gaming, not anymore with the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2, it has you covered. There are slots on the top that allows you to feed your mouse and keyboard cables through, then they attach to USB ports with and inside large cable ports underneath the board. This in turn means there is only one cable required for everything to work and this one cable goes from the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 to your PC and is an eye-watering 5M long.
See pic 2 and 3 below, this is what it looks like underneath after you remove the magnetic and screwed-down cover. You can either be messy and just shove your cables inside or wrap them around the circle poles. This is a great way to cable manage, and I must admit I love it as I love a tidy unit.
Do you need more connections? how about a faster-charging port for your mobile, all sorted, on top of the board you will find the fast charger connection and a spare 3.0 USB connection for a headset maybe. So in total, you have 4 USB 3.0 Ports inside the board and 2 on top more than enough I believe, ‘Counts his own’ yep can confirm this is enough.
So in use does it do its job? Damn right it does, but would you move your PC downstairs to take advantage of it, or is your PC already in the main room where your couch is? this the question you need to answer before purchasing. There is always the chance you use a keyboard and mouse on Stadia, GeForce Now, or Console or maybe you have something like the GameSir VX2 AimSwitch which works with Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS4, PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch, Windows 7/8/10 PC. This now opens up the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 to all new opportunities not thought about before.
Now for me, I already have a good gaming setup in my gaming room, but I can stream my PC Gaming down to my main TV so using the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 is perfect. I also have the Gamesir VX2 Aimswitch all set up for Switch, PC, and now Xbox, and using this along with the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 is a great way to game in comfort.
I used this for hours and hours playing some of my top games which I enjoy playing, Destiny 2, anything from Bethesda, Assassins Creed Valhalla, and much more. I even used the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 to eat my dinner off, a rather experience dinner mat I must admit. I have no complaints whatsoever, it does what it should do.
Now comes the elephant in the room, well a little child that likes to act like an elephant, this is not suitable at all, he or she will want to sit on it, bash your mouse and keyboard and just ruin your gaming experience, which you probably already know this.
So overall, what do I think of the Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2?
Well, it’s a great idea and does a great job, you can even use it to eat dinner off it if you so wish. There is just one point of design I would have changed, instead of providing velcro to stick the keyboard to the board, I would rather have a full-size mouse mat. This way my keyboard would not move and neither would the mouse mat. The Nerdytec Couchmaster Cycon 2 is great, comfortable to use, great cable management, multi-use with different peripherals, plenty of connections via USB 3.0 (and fast charge), well designed overall.
There are some other small issues, not all cables will fit through the top holes, general ones will but ones with plastic housing towards the start of the cable might not fit. There is also your size, if you are an overly big gamer, this might not be a suitable product for you.
Now let’s go stupid and complain a little, where are my RGB LED sections, kidding, but you might want to think about it.
