You will never guess what I’m covering in this article, I’ll give you a hint it’s not a Jurassic World Evolution 2 DLC pack but it is from our good friends over at Frontier. That’s right it’s the latest Planet Zoo DLC pack. If I can rely on anything it is that Frontier has got me covered with content I can write about for our readers. Just off the wagon with the latest Malta DLC pack for Jurassic World Evolution 2 and now I’m back managing zoos. Personally, out of the two, dinosaurs our where it’s at but Planet Zoo is just as good if not better when it comes to the freedom and level of creativity you can put into your Zoos. The pack is now available for £7.99 and comes with new animals and another scenario mission. The animals that you will welcome to your Zoo’s this time round are:
Habitat Animals:
- Maned Wolf
- Emu
- Caracal
- Red-Necked Wallaby
- Nine-banded Armadillo
- Striped Hyena
- Blue Wildebeest
Exhibit Animal:
- Five colourful species of Butterfly:
- Cloudless Sulphur
- European Peacock
- Menelaus Blue Morpho
- Monarch
- Old World Swallowtail
As with all new animals that come to Planet Zoo they will have unique characteristics that make them truly shine when on display. One of the things I loved about the previous DLC pack was the Walkthrough Bat enclosure that you could build and this time we get to build a walkthrough Butterfly enclosure. At first, I thought you might have to build multiple ones for the different species but no, you can have all five in one enclosure making the butterflies the first multispecies exhibit in the game. This looks so beautiful when you go inside the exhibit when you have all of the butterflies flying around. It is a must for any zoo as it won’t just draw the guests in but also yourself. I get easily distracted in these games but even more so when you see the level of detail that Frontier continue to put into their games. The Emus are one of my favourite additions but the ones that truly get my attention the most are the adorable Armadillo and Wallaby. They are just so cute even more so when you see the Armadillo sniffing the air or the Wallaby with a baby in its pouch. I’m happy with all the animals on offer in this pack, I don’t think there is one that I wouldn’t want in my zoo, the Maned Wolf and Striped Hyena are amazing pack animals and watching a large herd of Blue Wildebeest in a huge mixed animal habitat allows you to see their grace and beauty.
The fun doesn’t stop with the animals as we have a new campaign scenario to go with them. This time we head to Argentina and its untamed grasslands. You will meet Tiffany Summers and teach her how to properly care for animals as you relocate the diverse inhabitants of her sprawling mansion to more suitable surroundings as well as help her earn a permit so she can keep the animals legally. This silly little scenario did take me to one of my favourite locations in Planet Zoo and was super enjoyable. The scenarios are always good fun even if the storyline is a little bit quirky. I found the tasks to earn the stars quite simple and Tiffany was defiantly someone who shouldn’t have been looking after animals in the first place but luckily that is where you step in and help out. When it comes to Planet Zoo I do find myself enjoying the sandbox side of it rather than the scenarios though I’m not going to complain as it helps bulk out the DLC packs.
Conclusion
Planet Zoo stays consistent with its DLC prices as they always seem to be £7.99 and with the Grasslands Animals pack, we get some fantastic animals that get to call the Grasslands their home. Whether they use it as a form of sanctuary, cover for stalking pray or graze this DLC put them at the forefront and they are truly spectacular. If you have been keeping up with the Planet Zoo DLC packs then this isn’t one you want to skip as the animals on offer are awesome additions to any Zoo. I liked the butterflies they added as it was another great walkthrough exhibit and the habitat animals were great too, the scenario was average but I enjoyed having more content for Planet Zoo. It will be nice to see what’s next in terms of DLC, there are so many wonderful animals in the world that it would be great to see more of them implemented into the game. It would love to see a King Cobra or Black Mamba added in a future DLC pack or an aquarium pack where you can build a walkthrough aquarium for guests. There is so much they could do and I can’t wait to see it but Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animals Pack does another cracking job at providing additional content to another one of Frontiers’ thriving games and for that reason, I’m giving it a score of 8 out of 10.
Planet Zoo: Grasslands Animal Pack requires the Planet Zoo base game in order to download and play. Planet Zoo is available now on Steam for all budding zookeepers and is an ideal Christmas gift for animal lovers, with an RRP of £34.99/$44.99/€44.99, Planet Zoo Deluxe Edition RRP for £42.99 / $54.99 / €54.99 or the Planet Zoo Deluxe Upgrade Pack for £9.99 / $11.99 / €11.99.
