According to the research data analyzed and published by SafeBettingSites.com, PUBG Mobile is the leading mobile battle royale title in terms of revenue.
Its lifetime earnings surpassed the $3.5 billion mark in September 2020. Its revenue for the period between January 1, 2020 and August 13, 2020 amounted to $1.6 billion.
PUBG Hits $270M Global Player Spending Peak in March 2020
The games that took the second to the fifth position made a cumulative total of $1.3 billion within the same period. In March 2020 at the height of the global pandemic, global player spending peaked at $270 million.
PUBG Mobile’s top market globally is China, where it was rebranded to Game for Peace. The Chinese market alone accounts for $1.9 billion of the game’s lifetime earnings from the App Store. Its second biggest market is the United States which contributed 13.6% to its total revenue while Japan is third with 5.5%. India, which ranks highest in terms of downloads, accounts for 24% of PUBG Mobile’s total 770 million downloads. It also had over 33 million active subscribers prior to the local government’s ban on the game.
Moreover, the PC version of the game has sold more than 70 million copies since its 2017 launch. It is the third most played game on Steam in September 2020 and holds the all-time peak of concurrent players, which is at 3.26 million.
Fortnite, a major competitor, has been ahead of PUBG Mobile in the US market. Between January 1, 2020 and August 13, 2020, it had $181 million in revenue from the US. PUBG Mobile was in second place with $156 million. A week after its ouster from Google Play and the App Store on August 13, 2020, Call of Duty Mobile reported a 69% week-on-week revenue increase.
