Ship of Heroes continues to show off elements of their upcoming character creator Beta test, this time giving us a detailed video on how to use their randomizer. The SoH CCT has three main randomizers – for the face and body, for the costume assortment, and for the colors of the costume. There are also ten secondary randomizer buttons that can appear as you create a character, for specific areas such as the eyes, the body muscularity, and the hair.
Once you select the basic type of character you want to make – male, female, or really big guy – you can employ any of the 13 different randomizer functions to customize your character. You can also change any of the 80+ morphs and controls individually. The devs expect that designing a character using so many powerful morphs will be difficult for some players. So the randomizer buttons allow a player to relax and let the computer show them options, as an aid to their creativity.
SoH’s lead coder gives a fast-paced tour of using randomizers with each of the three basic character models. This tool, in its current form, gives more options to create a unique character than any other MMO has shown. According to the devs, there’s no need for any players to ever have identical characters unless they want to.
The CCT has a pretty smooth and intuitive layout. Based on this video, the biggest question is how many players have the artistry to make use of such a powerful character creator. The randomizers should make things easier for them.
We’re told that some of the most powerful features in the CCT are actually not demonstrated in this video – there’s a lot more to come. However, the devs want to systematically show off features so that players joining the upcoming CCT Beta will know what to expect.
This character creator shows a lot of options, and the devs continue to demonstrate the enormous variety of high-quality characters that can be made in their toolset. Better yet, they’re part of a real MMO setting with amazing characters, and lots of them, on the screen at the same time.
Ship of Heroes has conducted three successful Alpha tests, one in 2017 and two during 2018. The next big event will be a character creator Beta later in 2019, followed by a combat Beta. Mission testing will come later, with launch currently expected at the end of 2020. The SoH devs have said they will announce the date of the CCT Beta this week.
