The Nintendo Switch has become a very popular console to own, even the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is odd as it is missing some core features that are required in some games. I being of sound mind, own both consoles, with that in mind, I also know that the systems are not in any way that comfortable to hold for long periods of gaming. This is where a grip-case comes into play.
For me there is only ONE top-notch case manufacture, and that is Skull & Co. There is just one issue, I live in the UK and currently 11.05.2020 there is little to nothing available on Amazon.co.uk, which is one of Skull & Co’s preferred methods to sell within my country, which sucks. So I have to order directly from their main store and wait for delivery which can take anywhere up to 28 days.
This is not a bad thing, because ordering from the US and off the official store, you get so much more choice.
So for my Switch Lite I ordered the Skull & Co. GripCaseLite Bundle, this comes with the GripCase, a selection of Grip styles and an official carry case. The GripCaseLite Bundle comes in a number of colour variations, Yellow, Tourquise, Grey, Red (Coral), and Pokémon Cyan and Magenta. I would not be surprised if Skull & Co ended up creating more variations over time like they have done with the original GripCase, but for now they have covered all colours currently available for the Nintendo Switch Lite.
So shall we check out the box it all comes in? In a section I like to call Marketing and Sales, with a little unboxing.
The Box says it all, for the GripCaseLite you get told that the product offers Interchangeable Grips, suitable for all hand sizes, Soft and Anti-Scratch resistant and easy to fit. For the MaxCarryCase Lite, you get told that there is a huge capacity for storage, can charge within the case, can hold 8 game cards and even has an adjustable stand.
The design of the box and all sales information is smart and intuitive and provides just the right amount of information without clutter and waffle.
All of this costs as little as $39.99 (Avg UK Price – £33.00) and can be purchased here.
Inside the box comes two pieces of paper, basic instructions;
The instructions cover a number of design features which include the following;
- How to use a Power Bank, inside the case and outside the case.
- The use of a slim Bluetooth Transmitter, while switch lite is in the case.
- How to fit the GripCase to the Switch Console correctly
- The use of the adjustable stand.
- How to remove and install the different grip types.
Let us take a closer look at the GripCase with some sweet images below;
There are cutouts throughout the design that allow you to in install a Micro SD Card, put Game Cards in, use a wired headset, and charge, while also allowing air to flow through the system and sound to be pushed out.
Thanks to its modular design the Grips are easy to remove and install with a simple push on push off system and the raised L/R /ZL and ZR buttons, makes the trigger buttons easier to depress and more comfortable.
With each grip comes a different way of holding the console, my preferred grip is the original one that comes attached on delivery, the other two can be seen above and below are images on how you would hold the switch based on your grip choice. The worse grip is for sure the flat Grip, it does little to nothing when it comes to holding the switch lite.
The majority of the GripCase is clear, with the only logo from Skull & Co found on the side of the case. This I feel is a missed opportunity as Skull & Co should have added the logo to the back, why? If I was playing my Switch Lite in public and a gamer likes my GripCase, he/she would not need to ask me for the brand, they would simply see the name and then go search online and purchase it for themselves.
The final part is the MaxCarryCase Lite which can hold up to 8 game cards which is true, but you can also put cards behind the cards or Micro SD Card Holders. The Game Card Holder also acts as a screen protector with Velcro to hold it down over the screen, this protects the screen from any accidental scratches or damage. Under the switch is a gap for a Power Bank up to a certain size, as well as some USB cables, earphones etc. The design is minimal as well as eye-catching thanks to the well place logo and zip icon. The handle makes the MaxCarryCase Lite easy to carry around while being water and shock resistant thanks to its hard shell.
There is an added feature to the case and something that is missing from the Switch lite the ability to stand your device while playing, no need to worry now as the case offers 4 different positions.
Experience and Thoughts
I have used the original GripCase from Skull & Co for some time and have used other Cases as well to see if they are any better, and nothing in my opinion touches the design and quality offered with Skull & Co’s GripCase. So is it the same when it comes to the GripCaseLite for the Nintendo Switch Lite? I must admit, the only other GripCase I have used is from Venom, and that is good for the price, however, the plastic on the back that holds the game cartridges is cheap and nasty and I even broke mine within the first week.
So, just based on that and my experience with this GripCase, I wholeheartedly recommend purchasing this one along with the MaxCarryCase Lite as the GripCase fits perfect within the case. It fits well, easy to install and remove if needed and looks great. The GripCase not only allows you to show off its sweet design, but also your new Switch Lite, thanks to its clear colour scheme. The GripCase will also protect your pride and joy from accidental drops, however, Skull & Co do not provide a screen protector, so I would recommend purchasing one, Anti-Glare if possible, this will allow for better viewing experience outside.
The Grips on offer, provide a way to hold the Switch Lite comfortably, like you would expect when holding a controller. This allows you to grip the switch in a way that feels ergonomically correct and allows you to play for long periods of time without getting joint pain. The Best thing about the GripCase, is that it will offer people with bigger hands a chance to experience the Switch Lite comfortably, this has always been an issue for a number of gamers.
There is plenty of storage room within the MaxCarryCase Lite, but you are limited in size when it comes to deciding if you want to use a power bank or not within the case. The ability to stand your switch to play the system outside with a pro controller or a set of joy-cons is a nifty feature, but I doubt many will use it. I believe a lot of us have gone digital with the Switch, if not you can easily hold 16 games within the 8 Game Card Slots, or 8 games with Micro SDCards Holders behind them like I do. The design choice from Skull & Co makes the case minimal but pleasing on the eye with perfectly placed company logo and icon. There is one thing, your Switch lite will be super safe inside as I have already dropped my Switch in the case and it did not move inside or get any sort of damage. Carrying it around is easy thanks to its handle and if you end up in a rain storm, the case is waterproof, so nothing to worry about.
Oh yeah, before I go, I also ordered some Skull & Co. Thumb Grip Set For Nintendo SWITCH Lite, These offers 3 pairs of thumb grips with three different designs, a very low grip called the Skin Grip, a rather overly Large Grip called the CQC Elite, and FPS Master. These really do improve the experience you get when using the analogue sticks, are well-designed and will last some time.
