The Nintendo Switch is selling more units now than ever before, with over 100 million consoles sold worldwide in total.
Many avid gamers are turning towards the Switch due to its versatility. Users can alter between playing it as a portable hand-held system or it can be hooked up to a tv. It’s also much cheaper than a PS4 Pro or an Xbox One X, with the average going for around £260.
If you’re thinking about getting a Nintendo Switch but you’re unsure of what games to buy, then the team at online gaming company Mahjong Challenge has you covered. The gaming experts have revealed the best Nintendo Switch new releases of the last month, by compiling Metacritic reviews and scoring the latest games out of ten.
In first place, is Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which has a score of 8.9 out of a possible 10. The game follows that of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and takes players to the world of Aionios, home to two hostile nations. Keves, and Agnus. Six soldiers hailing from these nations will take part in a grand tale with life as its central theme – Noah, Lanz, Eunie, Mio, Taion, and Sena. The game has been widely praised by critics, with one writing: “There’s so much to see and do and such a powerful story to be told, and it’s all perfectly pieced together to result in a title that impresses on every level.”

Taking second place is Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, scoring 8.4 out of 10. The Gunvolt series began in 2014 with the digital-exclusive 3DS game Azure Striker Gunvolt. Back in 2016, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 continued the story of hero Gunvolt alongside his rival Copen. Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 finally picks up where the last game left off. New protagonist Kirin fights alongside Gunvolt, allowing players to switch between, adding a new element to the series’ action gameplay. One critic wrote: “It’s a game with an ambitious story, gorgeous art, and sound design, and frenetic and exciting combat. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll find some especially exciting elements to enjoy.”
Train Valley is in third place with a score of 8. This game has the user building railroads in order to connect cities. You can play on in five different worlds, from Europe to America to Asia, and the game can be played in story mode or random mode. The game also allows you to complete real-life events such as the Gold Rush of 1849, the construction of the Florida Overseas Railroad, World War II, the Cold War, the launch of the first manned space flight Vostok 1, the fall of the Berlin Wall and more.
Also scoring 8 is Live a Live. This game features seven different protagonists, time periods, and gameplay styles, ranging from the earliest days of man to the far future. The game is a remake of the 1994 classic and is a must for anyone who enjoys role-playing storytelling. The game was originally only released in Japan, however, Nintendo Switch brings the game to the west for the first time, resurrected with the same stunning HD-2D graphics.
With a score of 7.9 is Digimon Survive. This game is set in a mysterious world filled with dangerous monsters and deadly battles that will test your ability to survive. After getting lost on a school trip, the protagonist Takuma Momozuka finds himself transported to a world inhabited by scary beasts and challenges. The player must help Takuma and his friends fight their way back home, overcoming obstacles along the way.
Lost in Play is next with a score of 7.8 out of 10. Lost in Play is a puzzle adventure game that can be played by everyone. This feel-good game follows a brother and sister, Toto and Gal, as they explore dreamscapes and befriend magical creatures. This game is perfect for younger players, or even those looking for something upbeat and joyful.
Coromon is next on the list, with a score of 7.5. Coromon is a modern monster-taming game, full of challenging puzzles and excitement. This is followed by Frogun, with a score of 7.4. Frogun follows a fun adventure with charming visuals, varied levels, and a fair amount of challenge.
Mario Kart 8: Wave 2 scored 7.3. This game is another installment from the Mario Kart series across the Super NES, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, Wii, and Mario Kart Tour games, and is perfect for kids or family playing. It also offers two new tracks to play; the Turnip Cup and the Propeller Cup, both to be explored.
Finally, rounding off the list with a score of 7 is Hindsight. Hindsight is a narrative exploration game spanning the entirety of a woman’s life, from birth to present day, as she tries to make sense of the world around her. This game is full of mystery and lets the player explore lost forgotten dreams and memories frozen in time, but sooner or later, you must come back to the present.
