According to available information online, Hogwarts Legacy takes around 30-35 hours to complete if you focus exclusively on the story. If you dilly-dally around (which you should, by the way), Hogwarts Legacy can take at least twice longer to complete if you try to 100% the game. Of course, that means you’ll complete your fair share of memorable side quests.
If you have not decided on completing everything that Hogwarts Legacy has to offer yet but want to explore beyond the main campaign, don’t worry. We’re here to help guide you to the best side quests to do in Hogwarts Legacy.
This way, you can focus on doing the best side quests in Hogwarts Legacy and, who knows? Maybe after completing a couple of side quests, you’ll realize that you might as well clear through the game.
1. In the Shadow of the Relic
Without hesitation, the best side quest of Hogwarts Legacy is “In the Shadow of the Relic”. This is the culmination of the relationship questline of Sebastian Sallow, a gifted wizard who wanted nothing but to cure his sister. Unfortunately, his desire to help her sister out with her malady took him deep into the study of Dark Magic and Unforgivable Curses, specifically, Confringo.
Unfortunately, the Slytherin student found himself in way too deep. By the end of the questline, Sebastian had fallen into madness, going so far as to murder his uncle, Solomon Sallow. His best friend, Ominis Gaunt, wanted him to face justice for his actions, and his sister, who he wanted to save, wanted nothing to do with him. However, the game left Sebastian’s fate up in the air.
Most presume that the player character turned Sebastian in for the murder of his uncle so he could be tried at the Ministry of Magi.
Either way, it’s a sad ending to arguably one of the most tragic characters in the Wizarding World franchise.
2. Haunted Hogsmeade Shop
What happens if you take the premise of Remedy Entertainment’s Control and turn it into a side quest in a game about magic and wizards? Well, you get the PlayStation-exclusive “Haunted Hogsmeade Shop” questline.
Technically, the quest is called “Minding Your Own Business” and it tasks you with running your own business in Hogsmeade. The only problem is that not everything is as they seem. As soon as you head on over to the basement, you’ll find that a destructive ghost, Fastidio, is wreaking havoc. To make matters worse, the entire basement is filled with creepy mannequins hiding in every corner.
It’s a “trippy” adventure that you wouldn’t expect from a relatively straightforward open-world RPG like Hogwarts Legacy.
In total, this single side quest should last you around an hour to finish from the start.
3. Henrietta’s Hideaway
This unassuming side quest that you pick up from a vendor in Bainburgh is one of the best in Hogwarts Legacy.
Basically, she asks you to whisk away to a ruined castle found on the southern portion of the map to fetch Rococo, her beloved niffler. It’s a heartwarming story topped off by a castle with an awesome mix of enemies and puzzles. You’ll get to meet everything from Ashwinders to even Inferi in the said castle, so this is a good place to practice your magic.
4. The Man Behind The Moons
Leave it to a Harry Potter game to hide a simple but very important “unlocking” mechanic behind one of the best side quests in Hogwarts Legacy.
“The Man Behind The Moons” is a side quest given by Hogwarts’ caretaker at the time, Gladwyn Moon. He’ll ask you to locate at least thirteen Demiguise statues scattered all over Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.
Once done, Moon will teach you the Alohamora spell, which you can use to unlock locks and more mischief in Hogwarts Legacy.
5. Poppy Sweeting’s Entire Storyline
Poppy Sweeting is a cheerful fifth-year Hufflepuff with an affinity for animals that you’ll encounter in Hogwarts Legacy.
If you befriend her, you’ll kick off an entire storyline filled with some of the most adorable and cute moments in Hogwarts Legacy. We couldn’t quite pick one moment from Sweeting’s entire storyline that stood out, so we recommend completing the entire thing. Don’t worry, you’ll be well-rewarded as well.
Getting up close and personal with dragons, among other majestic creatures, is a reward in and of itself.
6. Well, Well, Well
“Well, Well, Well” is one of the best side quests in Hogwarts Legacy if we’re ranking them based on how likely you are to miss it.
Just southeast of the Aranshire is a well near some old ruins. You’ll notice you’re there once you start hearing a woman’s voice. Don’t look for it anymore, as the voice isn’t coming from anywhere else other than the well. Apparently, the well will tell you what to do and give you a secret location that contains loot.
Once you’re at the said location, all you need to do is to use Levioso to send the tree up in the air and retrieve the loot.
7. Ghost of our Love
Depending on your chosen house, the “Ghost of our Love” quest will unlock either on a gravestone surrounded by ghosts, on the roof of Hogwarts’ owlery, inside a dark cave in the forbidden forest or in Azkaban.
Regardless of where you find the paper that kickstarts this quest, it remains the same. Basically, it takes you on a romantic walk under the moonlight in an area filled with floating candles where two lovers, Richard and Apollonia, are waiting.
8. Phoenix Rising
Who wouldn’t want to own a phoenix? In Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll get a chance to nab your very own immortal fiery legendary canary via the “Phoenix Rising” quest.
Unlike some of the best side quests to do in Hogwarts Legacy we listed, the goal here is pretty simple – the phoenix itself.
To get your hands on the mythical creature in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to fight through a perilous mountain to reach its nest at the top. Once there, you can use your Nab-Sack spell to catch it.
Conclusion
As is almost always the case when it comes to open-world RPG titles, Hogwarts Legacy has several companion quest lines and random side quests that are just as memorable if not better than the main questline.
Perhaps this is a testament that Hogwarts Legacy is on the right track.
As an early GOTY contender, Hogwarts Legacy checks all the usual award-winning RPG boxes, including the “arguably better side quests than main quests” criteria. The ones we listed above are the perfect example of this. To experience this stellar game for yourself, be sure to grab a PSN Card from OffGamers here today.
