On the heels of TwitchCon Amsterdam which took place in July 2022 – TwitchCon returned to San Diego this past weekend seeing thousands of streamers and members of the community contributing in-person to the sold-out event, with select events live streamed to audiences globally.
During the Opening Ceremony keynote, Twitch CEO and Co-founder Emmett Shear discussed the imminent full rollout of Twitch’s charity fundraising tool and of Guest Star next month. He also discussed the wider rollout of lower payout thresholds to the US. Watch the full VOD here.
Twitch streamers BiqtchPuddin and DEERE hosted TwitchCon’s Drag Showcase, which resulted in standing ovations for electrifying performances from well-known Queens on Twitch: Rose Evergreen, BiddyBeeDrag, dragtrashly, LondynBradshaw, MYNXqueen.
Megan Thee Stallion headlined the TwitchCon Party presented by Amazon Games on Saturday night – where she had heads spinning when Master Chief from Halo joined her on stage for a live twerk session. The now viral moment occurred during a performance of “Freak Nasty,” where the rapper was joined onstage by the video game character – leaving those in the audience going wild. Earlier in the evening, Kim Petras graced the stage and powered through some of her hits including “Coconuts.”
Foodbeast’s Kitchen League Battle Royale: Gamers and Chefs teamed up for a sizzling battle of culinary wits in the world’s first live extreme cooking challenge, featuring a foodie face-off filled with fun mini-games for a grand prize! Hosted by Elie Poo of Foodbeast fame, participants included neeko, TheHungerService and more — and not to mention, fans were able to participate in the chat by activating Sabotages to intensify the cooking challenges further. After a series of deliciously thrilling mini games, the final round came down to Dream and PizzaPrincessG (The White Mushrooms) versus GeorgeNotFound and Chef Steve (The Black Olives). They participated in a Cage Match Cookoff to create the ultimate burrito. Featuring out-of-the-box cooking techniques, such as Chef Steve cutting tomatoes with an axe, and unpredictable Sabotages, like having to cook blindfolded, this was a face off for the ages. The Black Olives came out victorious, however, cementing GeorgeNotFound and Chef Steve as the culinary kings of TwitchCon 2022.
Twitch Rivals was in full force this weekend, with a bevy of meet-ups, games and tournaments that took place inside the Twitch Rivals Arena, presented by Verizon. Friday’s first Rivals event kicked-off with an IRL Balloon World Cup Regional Championship, in which competitors faced obstacles to try and keep a single balloon suspended in the air. MeesterKeem was named USA Champion while Dreads was named Canada Champion and now both have a spot to compete at the Balloon World Cup Championships in Barcelona, Spain! The culmination of Twitch Rivals concluded with a Victory Royale in Fortnite’s Zero Build mode, crowning Palermo, itrol_ and Fakkz_ as the winning trio, followed by the Ultimate Challenge Gauntlet where 16 duo teams were faced with IRL games that put their skills to the ultimate test. Attendees cheered on Averagejonas and Britanni as the Gauntlet champs, with viewers tuning in all weekend long via the Twitch Rivals channel (and participating Creators’ channels) to witness the intense competitions.
Cosplay Contest Presented by Crown Channel: On Saturday, cosplayers hit the Glitch Theater stage to compete for the top spot in various categories. Hosted by JaharaJayde and Krystina Arielle and joined by an all-star panel of judges and previous TwitchCon Cosplay winners, including AndyRaeCosplay, caseyreneecosplay, HokuProps and KikiKannon, the contest saw a slew of meticulous and mindblowing costumes hit the TwitchCon stage. Streamers were inspired by popular videogames and franchises, such as Overwatch, Borderlands, Monster Hunter, Black Panther and more. Streamers feipaints and PerlerTricks won the Armor and FX categories, respectively, while Moth Child CC took home the Needlework trophy. Moreover, fans voted throughout the night for the Fan Favorite category, which was rewarded to MagicMarkerStudio (Mark Stevenson). Ultimately, GinozaCostuming dominated the competition, winning the Grand Prize as well as the Larger Than Life category, earning the new champion title and $15,000. Her costume was praised endlessly by the judges, with HokuProps calling out that it was “one of the most beautiful paint jobs” they had ever seen!

- Prime Video – Offered guests a chance to experience the sights and sounds of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power through a custom extended screen theater, and go on an interactive journey into the new series The Peripheral at its TwitchCon booth.
- Wendy’s – Brought the Wendyverse to life at TwitchCon! Attendees experienced the Wendyverse in Horizon Worlds using headsets, while enjoying french toast and a frosty with friends in the real world.
