The Björk Digital tour created with HTC Vive™ will commence in Sydney on 4thJune
Björk today announced that she will be launching a unique virtual reality experience on Vive — the VR Album Exhibition — as part of an 18 month Björk Digital world tour. Starting at the Vivid Festival in Sydney on 4th June, before moving on to other international cities, this exclusive event is one of the first ever VR and music collaborations, and offers fans the chance to fully immerse themselves in an array of virtual reality installations. Each experience is bespoke to tracks featured on Björk’s eighth studio album, ‘Vulnicura’, and will be exhibited on HTC’s virtual reality platform, Vive.
The opening nights of this exclusive event will feature Björk as a DJ, and ticket owners will receive VIP access to the VR Album Exhibition on the night, as well as access to the Björk DJ performance. Upon entering the exhibition, guests will be welcomed into a communal viewing room, with multiple head mounted Vive units to view the Vulnicura Virtual VR album experience.
The world premiere of Notget in VR combines high resolution 3D scans, on-location holostudio, motion capture and videogrammetry along with real-time special audio design that envelopes and embeds the user into Björk’s performance. These digital assets are blended together to create an ever evolving and changing digital form of particles, light and sound that inhabits the space with you. Vive and its room-scale VR tracking capabilities has allowed the team to create a performance piece that reacts and connects with the users as they are encouraged to explore the large physical space, creating a deep connection that only could be achieved and experienced in VR.
Björk Digital, the content within the experience, features beautifully crafted immersive renditions of Björk’s visual collaborations with celebrated directors Andrew Huang, and Jesse Kanda and Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton Jones. Each has contributed installations with Björk, both real and virtual, featuring:
- Stonemilker – Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang
- Black Lake – Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang
- Mouth Mantra – Directed by Jesse Kanda
- ‘Notget’ – Directed by Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones’ exclusive reality installation version of the Vulnicura album track, in collaboration with renowned British digital production studio REWIND-VR.
- ‘Biophilia’ – an app room to explore the groundbreaking education app created by Bjork to teach school children about science, nature and music.
“With Vive we are focused on bringing a fully immersive experience to our users, and this partnership with Björk felt like a really natural fit,” said Rikard Steiber SVP Virtual Reality at HTC. “Björk is a pioneer of using technology to immerse listeners in her music, and the visual concepts created as part of Björk Digital are fantastic. We’re delighted to be able to work with Björk to offer such a unique experience to fans.”
