Synduality Echo of Ada emerges as a thrilling blend of big Mech-Suits intertwined with JRPG-styled characters—a fusion I’ve always adored, having delved into numerous anime and cherished big Mecha films and series. Naturally, my excitement peaked upon catching a glimpse of the Synduality Echo of Ada’s trailer, especially after my boss brought it up in our group chat. The concept appeared captivating, and the showcased environments exuded a mesmerizing aura. After all, who could resist the allure of an apocalypse setting in video games?
Fortunate enough to secure a spot in the closed beta testing over the Easter weekend, I eagerly plunged into the world of Synduality Echo of Ada. The experience left me brimming with anticipation for further testing phases and Synduality Echo of Ada official release.
Given the nature of closed beta tests, occasional technical hiccups were to be expected. Surprisingly, these disruptions were less frequent than I had anticipated. While I encountered minor graphical glitches and occasional lag during combat, Synduality Echo of Ada remained functional. Moreover, the inclusion of PvPvE elements added an extra layer of excitement that I thoroughly enjoyed.
You are a Drifter in this Sci-fi PvPvE extraction shooter. You will have to survive the surface world which has been infested with hostile Enders, Toxic rains, and enemy players as you fight for resources. With the help of your Magus partner and your trusty Cradlecoffin, you will go out and collect resources and seek the answers as to the cause of the fall of Amasia. In Synduality Echo of Ada your main objectives are to scavenge resources and hunt other players to bring back to your base.
You quickly pick up on the gameplay loop which is sortie, scavenge and return to your base with your spoils to upgrade your base and Cradlecoffins. This sort of loop is common in Extraction games and even though there is a high level of repetitiveness, I still enjoyed the grind of collecting resources and engaging in the PvPvE aspects of Synduality Echo of Ada. It’s high risk, high reward and I like that.
You have a Magus which is your AI Partner. You can customise their appearance and outfits as you like, and they also have support abilities that can be tailored to your playstyle. The Magus provides additional information when on the surface, they will let you know when there are enemies nearby as well as good and pinning nearby AO crystal excavation sites.
I’m guessing that the styles and body types that we got in the closed beta aren’t the only ones that are going to be in the full game at launch, but it did provide enough customisation options to get a feel for the Magus customisation and playstyles.
The main hub area is your base. Here you can upgrade and craft your equipment as well as customise your Magus. You can remodel and update several different areas within your base which generate more resources and provide better upgrade possibilities. This is also where you will go to sign up for Requests (Missions) so that you can get money and other rewards. I have seen this done before in games like Vigor and Chernobylite, where you can upgrade and manage aspects of your base.
It gives you another thing to work towards and a bit more of a reason to gather resources while above ground. While in the base you can customise your Cradlecoffin. Multiple parts of your Cradlecoffin can be changed and these are the Arms, Body and Legs. By mixing and matching and unlocking new ones changing the different parts of your Mecha can affect its stats. It can change the agility, durability, Mobility and more.
Some parts can come with additional bonuses like reduced fall damage, which is a thing in Synduality Echo of Ada. I learnt that the hard way. Your Cradlecoffins can be equipped with an array of different weapons. Kitting yourself out before venturing on a Sortie is important as you don’t want to be caught without ammo or the right amount of healable. If you are going out looking for a fight best to pack the big guns as they say.
While above ground you will be collecting resources, but you will need to manage your Cradlecoffin’s weight because the more you carry the slower you are. I wouldn’t go without saying that there are plenty of hazards above ground that can catch you off guard and if you’re too heavy you will be at a huge disadvantage. You can lose your cradlecoffin if your mecha loses all its health and even worse if you don’t bail out in time can lose your Magus too. When you die you will lose all your loot and resources.
When you have finished your gathering and requests above ground then you will need to locate one of the elevators that are scattered around. These are the only ways of returning safely to your base. While at these elevators you can come across other players that might try and kill you and gain your loot. Make sure you are ready for a gunfight just in case the worst happens.
Once you have called the elevator there is a short period before it arrives and descends which leaves you in a vulnerable position. You could try and hide and lay out defences like mines to catch others off guard and keep yourself safe long enough to return to base.
Graphically Synduality Echo of Ada looks incredible. I love the different Cradlecoffins and the customisation for you Magus. With it being the Beta I was expecting it to have limited content on the show but from what I did get to see I liked it. Of course, they wouldn’t give away too much. I liked the Enders designs, but I also like the look of the cradlecoffin customisation, I can’t wait to see all the different designs that will be in the full game.
There are different types of Cradlecoffins depending on what role you choose. Some are more designed for fighting Enders and others are more built for fighting other Mecha. You’ll be able to have multiple on the go and pick your loadouts and Mecha before heading out on missions.
I had a blast taking part in the Synduality Echo of Ada closed beta and will be following it up until release. I have already found and followed the social media pages so that I can stay up to with all the latest gossip and news and I can’t wait for further opportunities to jump back into Synduality Echo of Ada and continue polishing off my skills. Extraction games are enjoyable when done right and I have played a fair few in my time.
I liked the idea behind this one where you build custom Mechas and take them out into the world to gain resources and survive, but the looming threat of other players and AI enemies makes every sortie play out differently as in some games you could venture out and join a party of other Cradlecoffins and fight together or others you can get into full-blown combat as everyone is your enemy.
It’s a simple game hook but one that is addictive when done right and that’s what Synduality Echo of Ada has done.
