Being interviewed on Twitch TV at EGX 2016, Greg Pryjmachuk, the one-person development team behind Jalopy, spoke expansively about his creative experience. He spoke on Jalopy and how the “CarPG” as we are now referring to it, has been shaped by his experience working on the recent F1 titles.
Jalopy is currently in Early Access and has received regular game-shaping updates, as well as entirely new explorable territories since launch. With excitement, we are now nearing the release of our next major update, which will include an entirely new environment based on the country once known as Yugoslavia. You’ll be able to take a drive along the coastline of the country we now call Croatia; discover abandoned lighthouses along winding roads, scavenge deserted beaches and build your bank balance, trading a whole new raft of territory-specific goods.
A number of new options delivered in the upcoming update will also allow the player to upgrade their car:
- The Light Rack will give better illumination for improved viewing
- The Digital Dash Display will keep you informed about your car’s performance
- A Tool Rack can be installed to save space in the rear of your car
And that’s not all! Xbox 360 controllers will become compatible with Jalopy, as part of the Yugoslavia update! Plans are in place to support more input devices as we move on with Jalopy’s development.
There’s also an array of graphical improvements arriving in Jalopy’s Yugoslavia update, including a rebuilt car dashboard which makes each component much more defined. The rear and side view mirrors now function as a real car’s would, and support for anti-aliasing will also arrive, providing a smoother overall presentation.
In addition, considerable time has been spent refining some smaller elements of Jalopy’s visual style. For instance, the colour contrast has been improved. Black shades are now much less dense, with a hint of purple allowing for better contrast on darker monitors. Night time will now be less punishingly dark than in previous versions of the game.
A bunch of bug fixes and loads of surprises await you in the Yugoslavia update. You will now be able to honk the horn of your Laika to warn oncoming traffic, save a huge amount of components with the home storage system, lose money on components as their value adjusts dynamically related to their condition, and much more. The wait for this update will have been more than worth it.
We fully expect the Yugoslavia update to be added to the Jalopy build on Steam within the next couple of weeks, but those who have already purchased Jalopy can access the public beta of the new content right now. Follow the instructions below to do so:
- Open Steam on your PC and go to your library
- Right click on Jalopy and then click on Properties
- Select the BETAS tab and then in the dropdown menu select public_beta
- Once selected, Steam should automatically start downloading the beta content
- To opt-out of the beta repeat steps 1- 3 but select NONE in the drop down box
As always our Community Manager and Greg Pryjmachuk are ready to welcome feedback from Jalopy fans as we progress with the game’s development.
