After purchasing my Nintendo Switch, I have been on tender hooks hoping that Blizzard Entertainment will bring Diablo 3 to the system. It is the one the PC game that I have played way too much of, it is somewhat addictive, not as addictive as an online casino game but still addictive, but in a way, you can put down and come back to it whenever you want. Diablo 3 is a top-down hack ‘n’ slash game, a game that has a huge following and is well-loved thanks the game’s predecessors Diablo released in 1996, and Diablo 2 released in 2000. Diablo 3 took 12 years to get to us, which is one hell of a long time for any gamer to wait for, I guess Blizzard was deep into looking after World of Warcraft.
Diablo 3 Eternal Edition is possibly the final version of the game which has seen its release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC over the years, in different iterations. This version contains everything, the Original Game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, the Necromancer expansion and all the updates that the game has received over its years of release.
Of course, the Switch version will come with its exclusives, which includes Cucco companion pet, a Triforce portrait frame, and an exclusive transmogrification set ‘Ganondorf’s iconic armor’ and unique cosmetic wings.
So first off we have seven classes to play, my favorite class would have to be the Necromancer, I already have the Rathma Set, the Circle of Nailju’s Evol, which allows you to raise an additional Skeletal Mage with each cast, which is amazing with mega Mages, they literally own the battlefield. For a weapon, I am rocking the Jesseth Skullscythe. So for a deeper look at each class other than the one I use, I have grabbed the information from the blizzard website along with videos.
Classes
The Witch Doctor
A character reminiscent of Diablo 2 Necromancer, but more associated with voodoo. Witch doctors are spiritual warriors who summon dead souls and crawling creatures to do their bidding. By surrounding themselves with conjured zombies and vermin, witch doctors are free to assault their enemies with exploding skulls, acrid poison clouds, and wasting curses.
The Barbarian
The classic Barbarian who returns with a totally new revamped set of skills. Barbarians are savage wanderers who never flinch from close-quarters combat. Mighty ground stomps, leaping attacks and dual-wielded slashes leave a barbarian’s enemies dead in their boots and send any survivors fleeing for cover.
The Wizard
The Wizard a newer and better version of the Sorceress from Diablo 2, but not just an elementalist this time, Wizards are renegade spellcasters who use their bodies as vessels for arcane energy, forsaking the more careful path favoured by other magic users. They manipulate all manner of forces to disintegrate, burn and freeze their foes, and they can control time and light to teleport, create powerful illusions, and deflect oncoming attacks.
The Monk
The Monk as pure melee class which uses martial arts to take down his or her enemies, with a great set of skills, Monks are sacred warriors who channel divine power through sheer force of will. Healing waves, mantras of protection and attacks empowered with holy might are all within their purview.
The Demon Hunter
The Demon Hunter and range class, Demon hunters are relentless vigilantes who execute their infernal targets with an arsenal of ranged weapons. They crouch and take aim far from danger, relying on bows, deadly traps, and projectiles to swiftly bring an end to the creatures that haunt their world.
Crusader
Crusaders are unbending champions of faith and law. These living fortresses use impenetrable plate and towering shields to wade through scores of foes, leaving demonic bodies smoldering in their wake.
Necromancer
Necromancers are ruthless commanders, and masters of life and death. These dark spellcasters reanimate the dead as skeletal remains, curse their enemies with deadly magics, and further torment them with the carcasses of their defeated fellows.
Do not worry if you are not sure which class you prefer more, I was first a Demon Hunter, then a Crusader but settled on the Necromancer. You can create as many profiles as you want until you find the class you want to play. If you like them all then play them all, there is nothing stopping you apart from time. Each class will have the own set of skills which opens up as you level up and along with runes that upgrade the skills you are currently using. Then once you hit the maximum level which is 70 you on lock ‘paragon’. Paragon allows you to improve even more with a total 728 more levels to climb, allowing you to put points in core, offensive, defensive and utility. For even more information on Paragons checkout this site, as there is a lot to take in.
As with this sort of game, what would the game be without having something to grind for, this is where gear comes into play, class gear. Getting that perfect class gear stats the bests suit your skills and runes you have gone for. Class gear will drop when you reach level 70 and will have a number of stats, some will be useful to you some will be not so useful, so be mindful. Read over them and see if the gear you have picked up will benefit you. Yes, the gear might look amazing, but if the stats are rubbish then the gear has no real benefit for you. Also, use Kanai’s Cude, this is great, as for example, I picked up the Circle of Nailju’s Evol and I picked up something just as useful but I was not able to equip both, using Kanai’s Cude allows you to keep the unique skills that came with the item and still use them, when running with other items in the slots, for more information of this check out this site. You will need to grind specific items so you can extract the skills, but the items are relatively easy to obtain.
The game has a number of modes for you to dig into, so when you first start the game you will have to complete the campaign mode. This mode will help you choose the class you prefer and understand how the game plays, mechanics and pull off some wicked combos to obliterate the armies of hell. You will be fighting for angles that want you dead, fallen seraphs, walking corpses, cultists, bats, spiders, maggots you name it, they are here, not forgetting the lords of hell, including Diablo and Death. The campaign is set across 5 acts, for me, it does not take that long and I actually never hit the maximum level at the end, but this is all dependant on your knowledge of the game and how well you play your class, and of course the level of difficulty. There are plenty of levels of difficulty in this game starting at Normal right up to Torment Rank 13.
So what do you do when you finish the campaign mode and you have not yet reached level 70? Head into adventure mode and start doing bounties and rifts. Bounties are set across each act, and as the word entails, you are set a bounty. There will be five bounties per act to complete from the likes of killing a boss to clearing an area, all pretty easy if you not up-ing the difficulty level. Once you complete all 5 bounties in an act, you will be given a chest full of goodies, from epics to even class gear.
Then we have two types of Rifts to delve into, the first was is called a Nephalem Rift. A simple premise kill everything until the rift guardian appears, kill the guardian, pickup loot and the Greater Rift stone and get out, it is that simple. A greater rift is based on speed, you have the expected rift completion time, and your completion time, you simply need to be faster than they expected time to get the goodies this time around.
It does not stop there, Diablo has Seasons, which allow you to experience the game all over again, but this time once you complete objectives, you can obtain some sweet goodies like a whole class set, season-specific transmogrify items, portraits and pets and so much more.
Diablo 3 is huge and never-ending, it will offer you so much and keep you coming back for more. But how does it way up on the Nintendo Switch, well the game has had a visual downgrade but what do you expect I am comparing this to the PC version. The controls are also tricky to get used to, again I am used to playing this with a mouse and keyboard, but after a little time, I was happy with what I have now. It is not in no way a new experience, but for me its a new way for me to play a game I live anywhere at anytime.
