AKRacing Gaming Desk Review

We are so close to Christmas 2018 when this review was written and I finally got myself the AKRacing Gaming Desk to go with my AKRacing Footstool and AKRacing Gaming Chair, the only thing left now as an AKRacing Floor Mat to finish my collection.

Now I have already reviewed the Arozzi Arena Gaming Desk and found it amazing and MASSIVE, I was able to use three monitors and have my base unit all on the desk, so why have I gone for a small desk? well to give me more room in my office of course. Yes, having a huge desk has its benefits, however, when you have less room and you need to downgrade then this desk could be for you.

The only thing that has changed when moving to this desk is my base unit is now on the ground, other than that I still have three monitors running and everything else which was on my desk is still there.

So what is the desk specifications? here they are below;

Now I might have everything all set up now, but this was no easy task, its weighed a tonne, Over 30KG, I had to even help the delivery driver to get it off the van, then the delivery driver had to help me get it up into the office which as he said, is against his working conditions due to health and safety, but as I helped him, he only thought it was right he should help me, so thanks Mr. Delivery Driver.

When opening up, I found that everything was well packaged as always when it comes to AKRacing products, so nothing was damaged, scratched or out of place. Everything just weighed an absolute tonne.  Inside, you get a guide to help you build the desk, two heavy legs, the top, a cable tidy and three bags of accessories.

Putting the desk together took some time as I found putting the screws into certain sections was not that easy to accomplish for some reason, but in the end, I managed to build it, and as always I created a video, with the speed increases by 2.15x.

So after building the desk what do, I think of it? does it look good? does it do its job? well, I was able to put everything on this desk apart from the PC Base Unit, but there where questions and improvements I can see could be done. First off the desktop looks amazing, the texture, the detail and design all shine quality and high-end. The front of the desk has a cut-out section which allows you to get a little closer to the desk, well not all gamers are thin some of us have daddy’s bellies, or simply a little overweight.

Now you can use the desk without a mouse mat, however, I would not recommend it and you do not have to, as the desk comes with an AKRacing Cloth Mouse Mat, that cover 3/4 of the desk width wise and 1/2 the desk depth wise. The mouse mat is good quality and should be perfectly ok for the majority of gamers. For me, though I wanted to protect the whole table, So I used the AKRacing mouse mat towards the back of the desk and then used the Razer Goliathus Extended Chroma that covered the front of the desk, I rested the keyboard and mouse on that surface. So maybe AKRacing could design a mouse mat surface that fits the whole desk and just leaves out the cut-out section. Making sure that gamers can remove the mouse mat, clean it, replace it or simply not use it. Gamers do tend to use a rather large surface when playing games with mouse and keyboard, so having a surface the covers the desk I feel would make the desk more suitable for more gamers.

Now comes the back of the desk and the cable tidy, now the idea is good, but the final design is lacking, why? I can still see the cables, they are not tidy and it just looks a mess. OK they have used a nice velvet soft material inside which does protect the cables in general, and there are holes that allow you to put cables through, but I fail to see the tidy again. If they created this with a flip-up lid which hides all the cables within the cable tidy section, that would be amazing, think I am going to create one for myself.

This desk looks amazing from the front and overall the design choices can be improved, there is a place to hang your headset underneath, either to the left or right of you, however, I keep hitting them when swiveling my chair in that direction, so yes great idea, but it does get in the way, maybe move it to the side instead of the front.

So you might be thinking, all I have done is moaned and come up with improvements and you would be right, as a reviewer I look at a product and see its issues and offer improvements, but I also see where the product stands out. So I can tell you now, this desk is quality, the structure, the design, the vibrancy of colours, the weight, everything shines Gamer, built for a Gamer, which is something I want to see from AKRacing. All my improvements will make the desk even better, but in its current form there is nothing really wrong with it and a typical gamer will not care. It is a Gaming Desk, it looks like a gaming desk and allows a gamer to have a gaming zone that stands out over his or her friends with their rubbish basic tables or computer desks.

So final thoughts, ignoring the improvements I mentioned this desk is great, having the option to hang your headset somewhere is better than having your headset just hanging around and the ability to somewhat cable manage is there. The addition of a mouse mat does give gamers the choice to use a cloth surface or the hard surface, but using the mouse mat will protect the desks nice textured surface.

If you add all the improvements I mentioned for a better cable management system, moving the headset hanger to the side and offering a full mouse mat to cover the whole desk, will just improve the desk even more, but all this is not needed they are just ideas, which I personally feel can be added.
