Archaica: The Path of Light from developers Two Mammoths is a great little puzzle game that will keep you busy for a good few hours. The premise behind the game is quite simple yet it delivers quite an engaging set of puzzles throughout. Is it worth picking up on Nintendo Switch? If you’re a fan of puzzle games, the answer is definitely yes it is.
In Archaica: The Path of Light, players will control light. As the light bearer, you need to direct the flow of light throughout levels to open up a pathway. In the ancient world of Archaica: The Path of Light, there are hidden glyphs which need to be found within levels. Finding all of these reveals a tidbit of lore about the game world and its mechanics itself. Players can also find light charges which provide energy to the game’s built in hint system. Gather enough charge and you can deploy a hint onto the map which will assist you in solving the puzzle at hand.
The game world’s are great with each level setting itself apart from one another with extremely clever puzzles and solutions. As you direct the light, you will move mirrors and/or rotate them. The game introduces other mechanics too such as light amplifiers and bonus keystone doors that can only be opened with some crafty light manipulation.
Archaica: The Path of Light excels in how rewarding it is to progress throughout levels. Players will initially be solving some rather simple puzzles but later on in the game, these become progressively harder to solve, and with it so too does the rewarding feeling you get when finally making it through a level. The hint system isn’t overly powerful either since it lets you figure things out for yourself somewhat while only holding you back with a timer until its next charge can be used.
The game world of Archaica: The Path of Light is downright gorgeous with every single level looking spectacular. Players will want to progress further just to explore more of the game’s beautiful level design. It’s a visual feast for the eyes and watching the light beams travel across the map as you rotate mirrors never gets old. There’s a sense of atmospheric wonder to the game, and the graphics combined with the gameplay itself is perfectly blended together to create this.
Overall, Archaica: The Path of Light is a great little indie title with an intriguing story told by in-game lore. It has excellent puzzle gameplay and visually appealing graphics that draw you into the game’s world and is certainly a great workout for your brain. If you’re on the lookout for a game that’s perfect to pick up and play on the Nintendo Switch, Archaica: The Path of Light is definitely one to consider. There are a lot of indie puzzle titles out there but Archaica: The Path of Light is a cut above the rest with gameplay that compels you to move forward and learn more about the mysterious world of the light bearer. Highly recommended.
