Whenever I’ve been on a long car journey with friends there is one issue that always seems to arise which is people’s batteries dying on their gadgets, the next problem then being there is usually just the one charger available in the car. Nine times out of ten the Sat Nav will be plugged into the charger port so there are always going to be people suffering in the car as you’re essentially cutting off their limb when you say they’ll have to do without until you arrive at your destination. I’ll never have that problem again though, all thanks to the Aukey CC-01 because it has quadrupled the amount of devices that I can now charge in my car. That’s right, I’ve gone from being able to plug in just my phone (which I also use as a Sat Nav thanks to Google Maps) to being able to also charge my 3DS, iPad and a passengers’ phone all at the same time.
I couldn’t help but think though if being able to charge all these devices simultaneously would cause the charger to overheat and for the performance to drop, meaning that charge times on all four devices would take longer. Well, I’m glad to report that thanks to Aukey’s revolutionary AIPower™ that it manages to deliver full power to all devices so there is no need to worry about a loss of power when charging. The first time I used it its performance blew me away, I was literally only on a twenty minute round trip to take some rubbish down to the local tip and both mine and my mum’s phone battery life had increased by 13-15%. Now using those figures, I estimate it would take just under three hours to reach a full charge which is roughly the same time it would take using my official Samsung charger. This just makes the CC-01 all the more impressive since both phones were running off the same charger thanks to the CC-01’s multiple ports, instead of both being plugged into different sockets.
As for the safety features, I’m glad to say my fears about overheating and overvoltage are put safely to bed thanks to the cutting edge Texas Instruments technology, which protects all your gadgets so you don’t have to worry about any trouble popping up. In simple terms, this all means there is no need to worry about your charger breaking due to overheating, no need to worry about your battery exploding by the CC-01 delivering too much power to your phone and no need to worry about your battery being overcharged to the point its life is cut short and it starts losing power. I’m not sure what witch doctor magic is behind this technology, maybe someone has had to sacrifice a chicken or a goat during the production of each charger, what I do know however is that Aukey delivers the quality it promises.
As for the design of the charger, it comes in a sleek looking black or white, the black perfectly matching my 3 series BMW (although it looks a lot cleaner than my car). The clever bit of the design however is despite having four ports for your cables to be plugged into it is still kept small and compact weighing a measly 43g and measuring just (H) 86.7mm x (L) 45mm x (W) 21mm. All this while still being able to use its 48W power to deliver an output of 9.6A (each port having a maximum charging seed of up to 2.4A) just proves that this is the possibly one of the best and most efficient car chargers available on the market. My only criticism is when plugged in to the charger port of the car a small blue light comes on inside the charger, which I didn’t notice until I used it at night time in the dark. It would be better in my opinion to have some kind of LED on the outer shell just to indicate when the CC-01 is charging and when it has finished.
That little design flaw aside, there isn’t much more that can be done to help improve the CC-01 as it already looks great and offers better than expected performance. I mean I suppose in the contents of the box it would be nice to receive a USB cable that can be used as a universal charger by having swappable heads to fit a range of different devices which was the main positive of my old car charger. It’s no real inconvenience not having one though, because the charger is compatible with all Apple and Android devices, meaning you can just use your normal charger cable by plugging it into one of the many available ports. My only other improvement would be to my car interior as both cigarette lighter ports cause some issues with cables getting in the way; one is located very close to the gear stick which isn’t very convenient and the other means having to lift up my arm rest making longer journeys less comfortable, but both issues are in no way the fault of the CC-01 but BMW instead.
So if you are on the lookout for a new car charger and often do long a journey with friends or family then this is definitely the charger you need. Why? Because it stores away easily in any glove box and it both looks and performs fantastically. Need persuading some more? Well, think of it like this; while you have your Sat Nav plugged in, the kids can have their handheld game consoles plugged in the back and you can also have your phone on charge as well, all while still receiving full power despite everything being plugged into the one charger. That means no more “are we there yet” or “I’m bored” just some quiet children in the back allowing you to focus on the road. Definitely a must buy if you’re on the lookout for an in-car charger.
