GameJam+ a yearly video game development marathon established to foster and mentor new independent studios and support their entry into the global video game industry — is thrilled to announce the winners from the Brazilian Semifinal along with two extremely exciting new partnerships. GameJam+ is pleased to welcome The Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) and Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, the historic and legendary Brazilian football team.
The Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) is a big name in the Brazilian gaming industry and the newest sponsor of GameJam+. The organization works to promote Brazilian products and services abroad and to attract foreign investments to strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy. Their recently announced partnership with GameJam+ is the latest in a line of endeavors by Apex-Brasil to engage with and promote the Brazilian indie scene.
As one of Brazil’s most successful football clubs and the most popular — with a whopping 40.2 million supporters as of 2020 — Clube de Regatas do Flamengo has recently joined GameJam+ as a sponsor. With this new partnership, the club provided a R$5,000 prize to the winner of the Flamengo/Hacking Rio category.
“Flamengo is the biggest club in the country and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with them,”said Ian Rochlin, GameJam+ organizer. “Along with Apex-Brasil, these new partnerships are really launching GameJam+ into new heights.”
The event recently wrapped up the first part of the GameJam+ 3rd Stage Awards, and the sponsors are pleased to announce the winners of the Brazil group!
The International Game Development Association (IGDA) Award winner is the adorable and colorful puzzle game Gemtle from Kainan Nicotari. Initially completed in under 48 hours during the first phase of GameJam+, the team has been hard at work ever since and it’s clearly paid off with this big win! Next up, the winner of the brand new Flamengo/Hacking.rio category we have MARIAS, a narrative-driven, single-player action game that follows Maria Quitéria, a military fighter from the Brazilian War of Independence on her journey for freedom.
