“…a somehow entertaining game with little-to-no point whatsoever but one which will nonetheless provide you with inexplicable entertainment without asking you for a penny in return.”
Make it Rain is the newest mobile title to come out of the indie developers over at Space Inch. Available on all the major mobile operating systems, Make it Rain is a game which is simply about money, and not having a care in the world. I picked it up myself on my Windows Phone while I was browsing the store for something casual to play, and which wasn’t yet another Clash of Clans clone. Be warned, this game is highly addictive, but honestly, I couldn’t quite tell you why…
You see, despite bizarrely enjoying Make it Rain, in truth I could not tell you what the point of the game actually is. Sure, if you have an unhealthy love for rapidly increasing numbers, repeatedly swiping touch screens, or a burning desire to pretend in some very basic form that you are super rich, this game will probably stand out to you perfectly. But with no actual aim other than to increase your money as fast as you can to as high a virtual quantity as possible, and of course get some achievements along the way, it is hard to say what the actual point of Make it Rain is. As I said before though, for some strange reason the game still manages to be pretty fun and almost exciting to play.
So what do you do in this strangely amusing game? Well, for the most part, you swipe your screen as dangerously quickly as you can, and that is the bulk of the “gameplay” if you will. The main aim of the game is to make money, and you do this in three ways. One is with the pile of notes which you can see on your screen. Every time you swipe the pile, you get the value of the note added to the counter at the top of the screen. The faster the swipe, the bigger the multiplier which you can potentially get while doing this as well, and thus you can get money faster. The second way to get money is the automatic additions which go into your account every second, which we will come back to in a moment. The third way is with a bucket, which fills with money whilst the game is closed until it is full to the top, and then you can empty it when you next open the game to add its contents to your counter. So that is the basics of what is going on here.
Of course, like anyone who is making money at the rate at which this game implies it is possible to, you will want to make more money, and make it faster too. That is why you can make investments. These line up to the three different ways in which you can make your money, with different styles of investments applying to each. Some investments will increase the balance of the notes which you can swipe into your stash, some will increase the automatic amount added every second, and some will increase the size of your bucket or the amount of money which is added to it every hour. These investments are more effective the more you spend on them too. You start of small with piggy banks, mattresses and class president election campaigns, but the bigger you get the bigger your investments will get too. It is important to invest as your money comes in too, because you don’t want to get caught out by any federal investigations into your income! Yep, this simple yet entertaining game even thought of that side of things too.
There is little negative feedback to give Make it Rain to be honest. There are the obvious issues of it being wildly unrealistic and having no real point other than to make you wallow in self-pity as you make virtual money in place of actually filling your wallet, but otherwise there is little to groan about. The game is free, and you can’t say better than that. It provides entertainment, even if you can’t comprehend quite how or why. The only real thing you need to look out for is breaking your poor phone screen or wrist as you attempt to swipe at unfathomable speeds in order to fulfil your insatiable desire to watch numbers tick up on a counter. You may also experience hysterics and general thoughts concerning what exactly your life has become. You can at least rest assured that these are probably pretty common side effects of playing this game.
Make it Rain then is a somehow entertaining game with little-to-no point whatsoever but one which will nonetheless provide you with inexplicable entertainment without asking you for a penny in return. It is curiously addictive, it’s very different to any of the other random mobile games out there at the moment, and it will make you laugh at yourself if nothing else. There aren’t really even any negatives about it either. What a world we live in today. Ah well, time to go back to swiping my life away, and even if you only ever play it once, for some reason I am inclined to tell you to go and swipe yours away too. Enjoy!
