What’s better than gigantic fleets clashing for dominance across the darkness of space, desperately fighting for what they believe is right in Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2? Ones four times the size, with Titan-class vessels dominating swathes of the cosmos with their incredibly powerful weapons. This is the promise of Armada 2’s new Massive Fleets mode, teased in our official Community Roadmap
and released as part of a free update for all players. You can get your first look at this, as well as our other plans for future content, in the archive of yesterday’s stream celebrating the launch.
In Massive Fleets mode, the points cap for fleets in single-player skirmishes and 1v1 battles is raised from 1,200 to 4,000, allowing for truly battlefield-spanning force compositions to clash. In addition, it unlocks previously campaign-only ships such as the Imperial Phalanx and the Tyranid Ancient One for use in this mode, letting you bring the galaxy’s most terrifying weapons to bear against your opponents.
This is a fun-first addition, meaning a couple of things. Balance and matchmaking are still centered on the 1,200 point mode used for ranked play. While we expect there are a number of viable strategies in Massive Fleets, it is simply impossible to keep tabs on the infinite possibilities now available to players. Alongside AI games, friends can go against each other in 1-on-1 – we invite players to use our community Discord to find other admirals to challenge. The mode also requires a significantly powerful PC to maintain good performance in the most ludicrous scenarios.
The Massive Fleet Update also coincides with the end of one of our ranked seasons, meaning a big balance patch, which you can read more about on Steam. We’re also still hard at work on a fourth narrative campaign, which you’ll hear more about in the near future, and other post-launch features.
