In the May monthly update for Rust, the popular sandbox survival game for PC, comes a new range of bug fixes, improvements and items. Live tomorrow at 7pm BST, the update will let players obtain Night Vision Goggles (handy in the dark) and craft Electric Heaters, providing much-needed warmth and comfort in cold climates.
New Items
Night Vision Goggles
Goodbye darkness, my old friend… The introduction of night vision goggles brings a brand new tactical aspect to Rust’s tightly balanced combat. In the dark and dangerous night time, this new piece of high-end kit could be the deciding edge in midnight raids. Good news for nocturnal predators, bad times for those who like to hide in the shadows.
“Rust has really dark nights and people complain about it a lot,” said Facepunch CEO Garry Newman. “Adding night vision goggles kind of fixes that, but like most interesting decisions in game dev, it’s a controversial change that’s going to make some players angry. We’ll see how it works out.”
Electric Heater
You can now deploy electric heating elements in your base They require 3 power each to run and provide heat in a 10m radius! No more freezing to death indoors if you choose to build in the arctic biome!
Water Pump, Powered Water Purifier and Fluid Combiner
The Water Pump is a new deployable that can be placed in a water source to automatically collect water. It requires 5 power and will collect 150ml of water per minute. To complement the new Water Pump, the Powered Water Purifier is a new deployable that can convert salt water to fresh water much more efficiently than the campfire purifier. Lastly, the new Fluid Combiner will allow you to combine multiple fluid sources into one output.
Improvements and Bug Fixes
Monument Changes
Back in 2018 we brought in the Puzzle Update, requiring you to solve puzzles to enter the Monuments. Afterwards we brought in Helicopters…and then you could just fly in. So now we’ve sealed up all the Monument skips, and you’ll no longer be able to skip puzzles by flying – in areas where making such changes was impractical, you’ll now find extra SAM sites too.
Farming 2.0 Tweaks
With the Farming 2.0 Update being live for a month we’ve made a series of balance changes based on feedback and further play-testing. These changes, along with the new water items above, should lead to farming being more manageable and lucrative.
Planter Boxes
The amount of water required to achieve “optimal” water saturation in planter boxes has been reduced, making it easier to keep your plants happy. Additionally, the minimum temperature in a planter box has been increased to help boost the viability of farming in colder locations.
Plant Genetic Buffs
Hardiness genes now contribute towards plant temperature happiness, and the Growth and Yield genes have had their effects boosted.
