So New Gundam Breaker is less than a month away and with that Bandai Namco is releasing tons of new teasers and information in the new iteration of the game. Although at this point I was at least expecting a name change. Neo Gundam Breaker seems a lot better in my book but then again it’s not my game so what the hell.
In the recent trailer that was heavily focused on the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam series, we are introduced with the new and returning mechanics of the game with the help of Kamille Bidan, the main protagonist and pilot of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam along with Fa Yuiry, Emma Sheen, and Reccoa Londe. From the get-go we are introduced to the new feature of the game which is a 3v3 team online battle but rather than just having three players on each side it seems like there are also AI-controlled mobile suits that will be joining the fight. And with that comes the newly introduced game mechanic that is being tagged as Real-time Customization which is the ability to steal any fallen gunpla parts from enemies and use it as your own. While activating the Awakening System has the ability to restore the stolen parts mid-fight and increase your stats in order to sway the tide of battle. Along with real-time customization and the awakening system, there will also be certain quests that will be available during the match to earn points in order to decide the victors depending on the team’s overall points indicated at the top of the screen.
Looking into the trailer’s combat system, it seems evident that the game borrowed the same weapon attack animations and mobility actions in the previous game. But if there was something I am really excited to see is it seems to have a better focus on huge gunpla battles or rather Perfect Grade boss battles. Something that I was really finding a huge lack of in the previous but considering the game is more fast-paced compared to games like God Eater or Monster Hunter I am also worried that it’s not going to be as fun to do them in comparison.
Also… I WANT A PLAYABLE SUPER FUMINA! Not just being able to fight a huge Super Fumina for pre-ordering the game or with it being a daily special mission to which we can only take on once per day.
Furthermore, the game still includes a leveling system but unlike the previous that makes you level each part this one seems to only require your Inner Frame to be leveled up and includes five types with their own set of unique EX Skills and abilities. With Green being a Balance role, Red as a Striker, Blue for the Gunner role, Yellow is for Enchant, and Pink would be the Search role. Other than that each gunpla part also has its own EX Skills and Linked Skills whether that’s transferable to other parts is a mystery at this point but if it doesn’t, then I can only imagine myself going with the weirdest of looks just to squeeze in more power.
While I do like the new direction the game is going, I can’t help but wonder if there is going to be a rarity system included in the game similar to its predecessor or if there will be a wide variety of mission types as is my complaint with the previous game. Since it was heavily focused on mowing down a huge amount of enemies and on higher difficulties *cough*New Type*cough* it was more of a hassle as each enemy takes forever to kill if I don’t resort to some pretty OP builds which includes but not limited to a funnel-type build or an atomic bazooka spamming build in the earlier patches on Gundam Breaker 3 making the experience either a very repetitive grind or a button-mashing half an hour long mission.
Meanwhile, Paint Mode mostly stayed the same with just some additional improvements and a feature to pick the battle BGM to be used within missions. Although the Builder Parts which before was actually used as additional options for combat has been turned into mere decorations and stat boosters at this point then again, I probably wouldn’t want to see my creation as another missile pod or funnel freak to fill my awakening meter. Something that I can’t help but do every time in order to maximize my killing or rather “breaking” potential.
With 100 Mobile Suits from the previous game and 11 brand new suits joining the base game. It feels a little underwhelming when the previous had 180 although some units use other parts to complete a set and that excludes all DLCs. And speaking of DLC’s the trailer also mentioned having “free” DLCs to be added in the future patches when the game releases on the 22nd of June. Something that we should take with a grain of salt considering the previous game also mentioned having free DLCs but bait and switched with paid DLCs after releasing the first DLC as free. And in their defense, it was because they decided to add as much story content that rivals the base story itself. And probably what’s worse was the entirety of them cost as much or close to the price of the full game. Although after some time, they re-released the game with a Break Edition which includes all DLCs with the price of the full game at launch. Something that I find hard to swallow after spending as much as I had during its initial release. While the trailer does imply that it will, at some point, have the largest roster in the future, I can only imagine that the “paid DLC” and “Season Pass” options become much more of a reality before I get to see the glorious roster in full.
Guess we just have to wait and find out if it’s going to make or break the gunpla!
