It looks like Frontier has graced us with another DLC pack for Planet Zoo in the form of Planet Zoo Oceania Pack. I feel like there is a near-endless amount of DLC possibilities with Planet Zoo due to the number of animals there are in the world. That being said It would be interesting to know how they chose what animals or locations to use in the new packs that come out. This time around we will get to welcome Oceania animals to our zoos.
What adorable, loveable animals do we get this time around, you might be wondering. First off, in my opinion, these animals have to be the cutest yet when it comes to a DLC pack. The five wonderful animals to meet and show off all come from the wild coasts of Oceania. This time we welcome:
- North Island Brown Kiwi
- Tasmanian Devil
- Little Penguin
- Quokka
- Spectacled Flying Fox (walkthrough exhibit)
Planet Zoo Oceania Pack is full of little animals but they bring a lot of attitude and presents to any zoo. My favourites would have to be the Little Penguins and the Quokka. The Quokka wins automatically with it’s adorable smile and I could happily watch the Penguins for hours swimming around their habitat. What makes these animals stand out is the Viewing Dome that comes out alongside the DLC pack in the free content update 1.15.
It seems to be a trend with Frontier with both Planet Zoo and Jurassic World Evolution 2 that when they drop new DLC packs we get an amazing update that further enhances our time with the new and existing animals/Dinosaurs. I enjoy the walkthrough exhibits anyway so to have another addition to the collection of animals we can use the Spectacled Flying Fox is one to admire and I love it so much.
Planet Zoo Oceania Pack should be called The Cute, The Cutest, and The Adorable because these little bundles of joy are a great addition. Even the Tasmanian Devil, likes to pick a fight with their fellow members and let the guests know they are there with their loud screeching.
On top of these, Planet Zoo Oceania Pack comes with over 200 scenery pieces that are influenced by the Oceania region. We get lots of dried leaves, wood, fibres, and weaves that help create that natural-looking deco in your zoo. It helps bring an authentic beauty with lots of vivid colours. We also get brilliant-looking Tiki carved decorations that are customisable but who wouldn’t want a glow-in-the-dark faux lava which brings your zoo to life at night?
I like it a lot when Frontier drops themed scenery pieces as it allows you to tailor zoos or areas of the zoo to a particular theme. Like when I go to Chester Zoo in the UK it has themed areas and each area is heavily inspired by the area the animals come from. This is why it’s nice to have these features in Planet Zoo as you can replicate the real-world zoos.
But that’s not all. We also get another addition to the campaign scenarios. We are reunited with Bernie Goodwin and his daughter as they offer you another new zoo project based at the Goodwin Family Wildlife Park. This scenario is wonderful as you get to see Bernie pass on the reins to Emma as we help her build a zoo from the ground up.
I love Frontier for keeping the campaign scenarios going in their DLC packs as it gives you another reason to invest in the pack. Don’t get me wrong I would buy packs if the animals in them are eye-catching but the fact that they always offer more content alongside the animals is a great bonus.
Conclusion
For the standard price of £7.99 for Planet Zoo Oceania Pack, I’d say you’re getting another solid pack. I feel for the players who truly invest their time into Zoo building and playing this game to the fullest. Then every new pack is a welcomed one, even more so when it comes with additional campaign scenarios and themed scenery pieces.
Partner that with the free update 1.15 bringing us Viewing Domes then you can’t tune down the opportunity to get close and personal with the four new animals and witness the beauty that is on offer with their behaviours and personalities. I would say that this is probably one of my favourite packs that have come out for Planet Zoo and for that reason, I’m giving it a solid score of 9 out of 10, mainly because there isn’t a single animal in this back that I don’t like.
