WINGS Interactive and Riot Games have announced a new partnership in which Riot Games is contributing $1M to invest in games by women and marginalized gender developers.
Over the last two years WINGS has actively funded indie games by diverse teams. With the added investment of Riot Games, WINGS will provide even more opportunities for marginalized developers.
“When we started the Underrepresented Founders program, we acknowledged that creating necessary change in the games industry was only possible through the right partnerships,” explains Brendan Mulligan, Associate Director of Corporate Development at Riot Games. “We knew that we needed to find community partners who have been championing underrepresented developers, hear their stories, and learn from their experience. WINGS has an awesome track record of backing women and marginalized gender developers and we can’t wait to add our efforts to theirs as we begin to even the playing field for games financing together.”
WINGS invests in games made by teams with strong diversity, where women and marginalized gender developers hold key creative, technical or business positions. The investment decisions are guided by a selection committee of women developers. With investment of up to $500K per game, the focus is on helping developers build a sustainable studio with a developer-first approach, with terms that ensure developers get revenue share from the first dollar, have complete creative and business control, own their IP rights, publishing rights and more.
WINGS has reviewed over 200 games from women and marginalized gender developers, and is already supporting 8 titles that have or will soon come to market. This includes the award-winning Later Daters (Bloom Digital), the highly anticipated Button City (Subliminal Games), the new Don’t Forget Me (The Moon Pirates) & more on their roster found at wingsfund.me/our-games.
