Coffee Stain Studios has revealed the details of Update 5 to the early access sensation, Satisfactory, launching on experimental today. The otherworldly first-person factory building sim has unveiled a reel of long awaited content additions, gameplay updates and visual overhauls.
No longer will players need to randomly open storage containers and hope for the best, as signs make their debut into the FICSIT Inc. arsenal, giving never before seen insight into ‘whatever you were thinking when you built this thing in the first place’. This comes alongside train collisions & signals, vehicle automation improvements across the board, as well as plenty more cosmetic content to boot!
It’s a sign!
Headlining this cosmetic themed update, Update 5 launches with six different ‘Sign’ buildings, all of which can be freely placed around the world, attached to structures or storage containers. Signs each come with a variety of layouts and players will be able to adapt text, colours, styles, and display any icon in the game, including some new special sign icons.
“2/10 – Too much crashing”
With the introduction of train collision mechanics, Update 5 brings a huge update to locomotives, with Signals now available to unlock at Tier 6. This will be an incredibly important bit of technology, as players will need to place multiple signals in the right way, to manage traffic on their tracks, ensuring efficiency while also trying to avoid crashes. In addition, the Train Locomotive and Train Station UI has been updated to allow for better management of Timetables and now also provide overviews of all the Trains, Stations, and routes in the world. This will allow players to plan their routes and solve problems more effectively.
Holy truck, automated driving improvements?!
Alongside the significant improvements to the vehicle automation system, the Truck Station has seen a rework, as well as UI changes. With the brand-new ‘FICSIT automated vehicle hologram safety-mode’ trucks getting lost in transit should be a thing of the past. Vehicles are now fitted with a system to get them back on track whenever they go AWOL. Alongside this, there are multiple other improvements to vehicle pathing, including improved visuals when viewing them from a distance, intelligent fuel management systems, as well as being able to save, replicate and share recorded pathing.
A Fresh Coat of Paint
A brand new tool will be available on the Build Gun when Update 5 drops, giving players the power to give their factories a sense of style. The Customizer allows players to change the style of the main cosmetic structures in their factory, such as Walls, Foundations, Ramps, and Roofs. In addition, this new technology will contain a bunch of patterns to experiment with, and will now also incorporate the existing Color Gun into its capabilities, which now no longer costs Color Cartridges to use.
Dedicated Server Support
As a surprise sweetener in this update, players will no longer be disconnected at the whim of their evil hosts, as Coffee Stain Studios release tools to enable players to establish dedicated servers.
To round out Update 5, Coffee Stain Studios has confirmed the addition of a huge new range of cosmetic structures, tweaks and quality of life updates to the build system, a complete visual overhaul to the Northern Forest and its surrounding areas, and continued performance optimisation changes.
“Making your factory feel like home has always been a pillar to the Satisfactory experience, and with Update 5 we’re really leaning into that” – Snutt Treptow, Community Manager at Coffee Stain Studios.
“We also really felt golf belonged in the game but clearly our community wasn’t having it. So we added dedicated server support instead. Gotta listen to the community. They keep us in line,” continued Jace Varlet, Community Manager at Coffee Stain Studios.
Satisfactory is currently available on Steam and Epic Games Store in Early Access.
