The long awaited Update 5 is available now on Satisfactory’s main Early Access branch! This update brings a refined version of Update 5 following its experimental launch last month, including bug fixes, quality of life improvements, cosmetic updates and advancements in gameplay.
Leading this update are the additions of customisable cosmetic enhancements, including new signs that can be placed across the world and a tool for personalising the appearance of a factory. Signals are introduced alongside new train collision mechanics, as well as the addition of automated driving, an improvement to the Truck Station, and much more!
It’s a Sign
Update 5 brings players ten different “sign” buildings, which can be placed freely within the world on adjustable height poles, affixed to buildings and storage containers, or even attached to each other. With a variety of layouts, these signs are highly customisable, giving players the freedom to adapt text, colours, backgrounds and display any icon in the game – including sign icons.
No more mixed signals!
With the addition of train collision mechanics, Update 5 makes signals available to unlock at Tier 6. This pivotal technology for shared track setups enables players to manage traffic and ensure efficiency with the implementation of Block and Path Signals, which feature colour-coded segments on the track to allow players to build signals more intuitively. Block Signals can be placed to create sections of track that a single train can occupy at once, while Path Signals reserve specific paths through a section allowing for more efficient, collision-free intersections. Players will need to place multiple signals as best as possible to avoid crashes and deadlocks. In addition, the Train Locomotive and Train Station UI has been improved, allowing for greater time management and delivering overviews of all the Trains, Stations and routes in the world.
Road work ahead? Uh yeah, I sure hope it does.
Automated vehicle pathing has been upgraded, with the introduction of obstacle avoidance, incorporating upcoming waypoints into the path towards a destination and the new “FICSIT automated vehicle hologram safety-mode”, which assists in getting lost vehicles back on track. This update brings improved visuals when looking from a distance, and pathing is able to be saved, replicated and shared across vehicles. The Truck Station has seen a remodel, with an added input and output slot and improved UI.
Deck the Walls
The Customizer is a brand new tool available in Update 5, giving players the freedom to give their factories their own flair. Available at Tier 2 as a part of the Build Gun, players can change the appearance of the main cosmetic fixtures within their factory like Walls, Roofs, Foundations and Ramps. Players can experiment by choosing from a variety of 58 prints available within this tool, and on top of that, The Customizer incorporates the capabilities of the existing Color Gun, but no longer requires a Color Cartridge to use.
Dedicated Server Support
Coffee Stain Studios is also releasing tools that let players establish their own dedicated servers – so players can share their world with their friends without requiring the host player to be playing the game.. The dedicated server tools are currently in an experimental state, with more information here.
