One of the biggest problems I have had with the Xbox since the 360 is batteries. You’re either buying batteries frequently to replace what you just drained, or you get rechargeable ones that will die out on you in less than a year from use if you’re a frequent gamer. So you’re left with rechargeable battery packs as your last option and Snakebyte has developed a couple different choices for you. Today I talk about the Xbox One Twin:Charge X.
As you can guess from the name it is a twin charge docking station. First impressions I must say I am extremely impressed with the design. The docking station is available in both black and white so whether you are on the Xbox One S or the X the docking station fits in perfectly with the console and doesn’t look out of place. Once placed in your desired spot it will sit there comfortably and is sturdy enough that it doesn’t move when placing and removing controllers to charge.
There are a lot of these types of products available on the market and you might find that there are cheaper options available. But what you will see from the other competitors is that they don’t seem to have put half the effort into analysing the builds of the consoles and designing their Twin:Charge stands in the same vein. The matching look of the stand to the console means that whether you play Xbox or PlayStation, the Twin:Charge X will perfectly match your console. The fact that Snakebyte have not only created them to match the console but that you have the choice of white or black for the Xbox shows true dedication and proves that Snakebyte cares about the products they produce.
If like me you have looked into various charging stations before now and been off put by the way the docking station would stand out like a sore thumb. Have no fear this won’t happen with the Twin:Charge X, its sleek design allows it to just look like its always been part of the Xbox set up. I have in the past had rechargeable battery packs that required being plugged in to a wire to charge which were OK at first but then over time they started to look messy having battery packs just lying around. With the Twin:Charge X you don’t have to worry about the messiness of wires everywhere as you just plug the USB into the back of the console and you forget it’s there. To charge your batteries you just sit your controller on to the dock and away you go.
Although the Twin:Charge X is a dual controller dock designed for use with the Xbox One, you can just as easily use it for charging Xbox controllers via your PC as well since it’s plugged in via a USB.
It takes around 1-2 hours for the battery pack to gain a full charge which in my experience is a pretty fast charge time. Once fully charged the battery pack will last between 6-8 hours which for the average gamer like myself is ideal as I never have to worry about trying to pull off a battery change mid battle. For the more advanced gamers/ streamers who dedicate more than 6 hours of their day to gaming they might find the 800mAh a bit of a disappointment and it might cause some restrictions.
The battery itself is designed for any generation of Xbox controller, but at least with the latest Bluetooth model the fit is incredibly tight. Which leads me to believe that over time the plastic tabs might become damaged especially if your heavy-handed putting the battery into the controller.
My main concern about the Twin:Charge X is the batteries. Most NiMH based batteries can be great, especially Panasonic’s Eneloop rechargeables while off brand ones suffer from really poor shelf life. It is hard to tell how Snakebytes batteries will hold over time without using them for a few months. But from the present time they are incredible at holding their charge. The batteries are very lightweight when compared to some other battery packs that are available on the market. I personally think they feel lighter in the controller than actual batteries which is a definite plus.
