The Tiny Bang Story, released on June 24th by Colibri games, is a basic point and click game where you find objects hidden around levels to complete tasks. The aim is to find these objects and rebuild modes of transport and other objects lying around..
The menu screen is easy to navigate around, allowing you to play or create a game (multiple profiles can be saved and chosen between), change the settings (music, sound and full screen or windowed mode) and exit the game.
The game starts with a small tutorial showing you how the game is played, giving you an idea of what to look for throughout the levels. The idea is to find items that are needed in order to fix other objects to progress through. These are shown by a cog appearing next to the mouse when they are hovered over, once this shows you click on the object which will then allow you to see what is needed to be found around the level (this is shown in the inventory). All of this is to progress onto the next level by fixing the mode of transport to travel there. Sometimes you are required to build said transport before you can use it, using pieces hidden around that area.
Once all the pieces for an object have been found the picture in the inventory will turn green for that particular piece. You then go back to the object, click on the piece from the inventory then the object. Sometimes you will need to do different tasks to complete it such as; swapping tiles to complete a picture, place pieces in the correct slots, join pieces together or solve small puzzles, all of which are challenging but suitable for those of all ages.
As well as these small puzzles and collecting pieces there are also a few mini games to be played. These include some old school styled games like moving up and down to avoid obstacles along the way. There are also some mini games where you move pieces in order to let things travel correctly along with other games too.
On the right hand side of the screen is the inventory, this is where the collectables for you to find are shown and how many of each you need. If you hover over the area a large image of the object in question to be fixed is shown.
Throughout each level you can find pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, the inventory will show how many pieces are left in each chapter. These are used after each level has been completed to piece together the next area on the map (this is seen when you load up the game on the main menu). This must be done in order to progress, but it is not mandatory to find all the pieces as they are given to you anyway.
There are hints to help you along the way, collecting dragonfly’s (found flying around the levels) builds up your hints, the more you collect the more hints you will have. The hint button is shown in the top right hand corner of the screen, where green shows a full hint, or how close you are to obtaining one.
Gameplay
Personally I found the game was a bit too short, I would have liked a few more levels to complete. It was also sometimes hard to understand where to go next without having to scan the entire screen with the mouse. It was good, and with these changes it would have made it that bit better. It was however easy to control and once you get into it, easy to navigate.
Graphics
The graphics in this game are hand drawn which is a great bonus, it was very well done and it helped to improve the game play by being interestingly done. There was so much to see on the screen and drew you into the game.
Music
I really liked the music throughout the game; it was soothing and really easy to listen to. As well as the game there was a CD of the music that you hear in the game which was a lovely bonus.
Closing comments
Even with the few added things that I would have like to see, I did really enjoy the game as a whole and would recommend it for people to play. It’s probably not a game best fit for those ‘hard-core’ gamers, but it is still fun and enjoyable for those who prefer to play a bit more casually. Overall, the game for me was very well done and it did leave me wanting more. But all in all I really enjoyed it and will play it again in the near future.
